I don't know, that article said we are not the top level, but the second.  I don't like USF being classed a second tier university in the state.

It's based on how many Doctoral level degrees we provide every years... (not including medical or JD programs).

UF & FSU turn out more than the 250 required each year to be Level I.

how many do we have?

also how many does ucf have?

We awarded about 100 last year. I haven't the slightest what doctoral programs UCF has, only that they're completely different from ours. I've never met anyone who has a Ph.D from UCF.

UCF had 178 doctoral degrees in 2005-2006.  http://www.iroffice.ucf.edu/commondataset/commondataset06/commondataset06.html

This year it will be very close to 200, if not over.  UCF has really increased it's focus on graduate studies the last 2 years or so.  They focused on undergraduate growth the 8-10 years before that, hence the large growth and increase in academic standing for undergrads.

According to USF website 184 doctoral degrees were awarded in 05-06

No, I believe the number is in the 180s.

That's what I have heard/saw.  I can't remember where though.

House gives tentative OK to new tuition structure, Crist still opposed

The House gave tentative approval to a dramatic change in the tuition structure for Florida's top three research institutions, but the measure could meet the governor's veto pen if the House, as expected, takes a final vote in favor of it Wednesday.

"I don't like to use the V-word," Gov. Charlie Crist said this week. "But three times the increase is bad."

The bill would allow UF and FSU to charge undergrads 40 percent more than the base state tuition, now $73.71 per credit hour. USF could charge 30 percent more. The proposal grew out of UF's earlier request to charge undergrads $500 extra each semester, to pay for more professors and academic counselors.

-----------------------

It's great that this is still moving along, but what are the chances that Crist changes his mind after opposing it so vehemently for so long?

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
