Bulls Drop Second Game Of Series With Louisville, 4-0

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (April 28, 2007) – After winning the Friday-night match up with Louisville 10-4, the University of South Florida baseball team lost 4-0 Saturday afternoon to the Cardinals in Kentucky.  

USF was only allowed two hits, tying the Bulls' season-low, which was set March 2 against Central Michigan. The shutout was the Bulls' second of the season, the first was a 1-0 loss on March 23 at Notre Dame.

Saturday's loss was junior right handed pitcher Chris Delaney's first of the season after starting the year a perfect 8-0 in 10 starts. Delaney struck out five, but allowed four runs from nine hits while walking three Cardinals in 5.2 innings.  

Senior RHP Yuri Higgins came in for relief tallying three strikeouts and allowing just one hit in 2.1 innings.  

Juniors Brandin Daniel and Dexter Butler recorded the Bulls' only hits, as both players were 1-for-3 on the night.

The Cardinals tallied one run in the bottom of the first, the 19th time USF allowed the opponent to score first in a game.  

The Bulls were held hitless through five innings, until Daniel ripped a double to right field in the top of the sixth, but USF was unable to score in the frame.  

Louisville added three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the 4-0 lead, recording three hits in the inning.  

Butler registered the Bulls' second hit of the game in the seventh inning, but again, USF was unable to produce a run.  

The Bulls and Cardinals conclude the three-game BIG EAST series Sunday at 11:30 a.m. at Patterson Stadium in Louisville.

Tough game. We knew Louisvlle had a good pitching staff coming into the series. The beauty of baseball is that we are back at it again tomorrow with a chance to win the series. Go Sanford. Go Bulls!
