I got caught up in the arrest terminology too - no big deal.

The cops say he was arrested, but most of us consider arrested to mean taken into custody.

The dictionary provides the cops version:  to bring to a stop

and, what I consider arrest to mean:  to take or keep in custody by authority of law

http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/arrest

The term arrest carries implied significance of crime...here it is plain wrong to use - but I'm not a cop on a sting operation writing a good-sounding report.

Fact - if he ever is filling out an application and it asks have you been arrested he will have answer yes. The application will not care how you define arrested. His saving grace will be if he pleads no contst he will not have been convicted.

Most job applications ask have you ever been convicted of a crime.  Where the question of an arrest is concerned, this mainly falls into areas where security and law enforcement are concerned.  If a question regarding an arrest is concerned, then the firm would probably have an FCIC/NCIC check done.

Hence the argument.

I guess I'll have to report being arrested too since I've gotten some speeding tickets.  Or not.

It's only a big deal because: 1) people keep posting on it, 2) people blame the law enforcement officials for enforcing the law and refuse to beleive that someone should have to accept responsibility for their actions.  This last one is what aggravates and scares me.  I see too many people who refuse to take responsibility for their actions.  I know they are raising kids.  That combination does not inspire optimism for our future.

It is only a mess up.  But it is HIS mess up.  He will get over it.  I did worse and got over it (as many of us did).  But, let's call it what it is -- a bonehead move and a lesson for life.  What he did doesn't worry me.  Some people's reactions do.

Having a star player be a bartender is a very poor choice.  The opportunity for a "set-up" is very real.

Not if he has a crafty lawyer who gets a settlement with the DA where the court records are sealed.  If the court records are sealed, then it "never happened".

sure...but is that worth paying 3-5k for?

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
