At 6'5, if he as a good arm like someone on here says we should get him.  That's basically what pro scouts look for in terms of physical ability.  He might not have the mental ability, but he also might.  Considering he wants to WALK ON, giving a 6'5 QB a shot at relatively no risk is a huge windfall.  This is good news.  Also, if he redshirts he will have 2 years after Grothe graduates, which means he can, at this point, feasibly win the job if he developes.

Risk vs Reward scenario... Potentially no risk whatsoever.

Negatives... kid realizes walking-on is no walk-in the park and bolts after the season. He is mentally tough, right?

Will he mind sitting three years at a minimum. The great QB chase will not ever stop. Leavitt will continue to look for the Mike Ford of QB's every year regardless of how great Matt Grothe is... this kid needs to realize has has about a 4% chance of ever starting at QB with Grothe penciled in for the next three years.

And the key point here which was in the Scout article...

"I think Matt made a good choice," Huber said. "You never know what could happen. With his size, he could become a tight end someday. They are giving him an opportunity and that was all he wanted. I've seen too many kids from here go away to school to play football and come back home. His strongest suit is as a pocket passer and if Mike Ford does what some people think he can do, USF might be utilizing his style more."

If Mike Ford develops... we will become the second coming of Miami. I don't think Leavitt truly likes the spread offense. It just happens to fit our two best QB's in our limited history. We've never had the caliber of a hyped Mike Ford running back that could carry the ball 30 times a game. D McMillan was the closest back... Andre Hall was not a 30 carry back a game. As much as I love Matt Grothe... the future of the Bulls resides squarely on the running back position. Our defense will always be solid. A running game will carry us to a National Championship. Get a 6'5" QB that can sling the ball as well and stretch the field... and life could be on the up and up for every Bulls fan. At the same token... there are so many intangibles here and the odds are so stacked against us... this could be another Evan Kraky story taking its course.

You ned to continue recruiting QB's and RBs, some will pan out other wont.

Grothe did an outstnading job last year but we ned guys just as good or better in the wings to take over if he gets injured etc.

Remember the Bowl game last year,Matt goes down and our offense scored ZERO points. We cant put our eggs all in one basket.

As USF gets better and more successful we wil get better QB's  and RBs.

He has a 75% Bright Futures scholarship.  That means that most of his college expenses will be taken care of anyway? No BMW though. (Not familiar with BF scholie, I had Dim Futures one myself).

What happened to our other walk-on QB J.B. Bailey? Is he still practicing with us?

I think Bailey is still here, but would assume mainly for scout team.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
