Since we don't really have a strong #3, having a prep QB turn down a small school and walk-on is a good thing.

Englewood Lemon Bay High QB Matt Piloto, 6-5 and 210  his stats weren't pretty, but let our coaches work with him for a few years.

Sure he will RS in 2007 to give him an extra year.

Yet, Piloto, who boasts a 3.8 grade point average and 75-percent Bright Futures scholarship, intends to pass on the Purple Raiders if offered preferred walk-on status at the University of South Florida. The Manta Rays signal caller, a Bulls' guest for several home games the past two seasons, visited campus last weekend and would love to remain in Florida.

...

Preferred walk-on status implies there's an opportunity -- not a guarantee -- to earn an athletic scholarship in later years. So to be safe, Piloto still plans to visit Mount Union, and maybe Wesleyan, some time next week while he waits to hear from USF. Piloto said both Mount Union and Wesleyan have insisted he could compete for playing time as a freshman, while at USF he'd clearly be behind Matt Grothe, the reigning Big East Freshman of the Year.

QB is still a Top position for 2008 recruiting.

Mount Union is basically a Division I school grazing at the Division III level. If he is good enough to play for Mount, we should take the kid. That school is an OSU retread factory. Those kids can ball... they take football pretty seriously at Mount!

If he's looking for preferred walk on status, then he obviously did NOT get an offer ET.

He is supposed to have a very strong arm, but as a pocket passer his mobility has not been developed.   He has nice size.  Hope good things come to him at USF.   :P

...maybe he can be a TE or safety or something with that size.

Looks like a good pick-up. Hey, whats the word on Alton Voss?  We still have him?

I was referring to the "offer" of being a preferred walk-on, not scholarship. If you are offered as a preferred walk-on, you are promised a roster spot.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
