Softball Concludes Home Schedule Friday and Sunday

TAMPA, Fla. (April 26, 2007) – The University of South Florida softball team concludes its home portion of the regular season when it hosts Providence on Friday at 2 p.m. and Connecticut on Sunday at 11 a.m.

Both games on Friday and Sunday will be broadcast live via internet radio on the Press Pass found on www.GoUSFBulls.com.

Prior to the start of game one on Sunday against Connecticut, seniors Danielle Urbanik, Kasey Cash and Meghan Kowal will be honored for their career achievements and contributions to the USF softball program.

The Bulls are coming off a series sweep of Notre Dame on April 22 and will look to end their season at home on a winning note. USF won the only meeting with Providence, sweeping the series, 8-3, 3-2, in 2006 on the road. The Bulls and the Huskies have played each other six times in the past and USF has the 4-2 edge. Last season, the teams did not play due to inclement weather that forced the cancellation of the doubleheader. The Bulls, however, are perfect at home in the series with a 3-0 record.

The league matchups this weekend will be crucial to USF and its chances of moving up the conference standings. Right now the Bulls have a BIG EAST record of 7-5 and sit in fourth place. The only thing that separates the Bulls from third-place Notre Dame is winning percentage since the Irish (9-5 BIG EAST) have two games in hand. Providence and UConn are also looking to advance in the league standings as well. The Friars (22-18, 6-10 BIG EAST) are currently in ninth place and vying for the eighth and final spot in the tournament, while UConn (20-18, 8-7 BIG EAST) is right below the Bulls in the standings, ranking fifth.
