Three Bulls Earn BIG EAST Accolades Following Third Place Finish

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (April 25, 2007) – Freshmen Thomas Estrada and Ales Svigelj and junior Mahmoud Hamed were named to the BIG EAST men's All-Tournament singles team, the conference announced Wednesday evening.  Hamed and Estrada were also honored for their doubles play.

The selections are the first for all three and the doubles selection is the first for USF since joining the conference.  Federico Barton became the first USF men's player to be named to the BIG EAST All-Conference team following last year's tournament.

Estrada completed the Championships with a perfect 3-0 record in singles play.  Hamed won two matches, and the tandem combined for two doubles wins as well.  The pair led the Bulls in singles wins during the season, each with 15, and were also the top doubles squad with 12 victories.

Svigelj was featured as the No. 1 singles player for the majority of the year, despite being a freshman.  He amassed eight wins during the season and was leading in two matches during the BIG EAST tournament before the clinching point was made, stopping all other players.

The men's team defeated Marquette in the opening round of the 2007 BIG EAST Championships, but fell to second-seeded Louisville in a close 4-3 semi-final match.  The Bulls then blanked St. John's 4-0 to seal a third-place finish for the second year in a row.
