You mean as an at-large, right? If we win the Conf. Tourney we will still make it, right?

yea i was talking about as an at large.

but if you look at our conference record its hard to say we will be a favorite to win the BE tourney either.

I was at the Sunday game...we made WAY too many mistakes.  That game was within our control, but when you keep making fielding errors and you can't get runs when you have the bases loaded with 0 outs, it really hurts your chances.

The good news is that our RPI is 43, still in the Top 50.  The bad news is that we are now 6th place in the 12th rated conference.  Despite the record and the RPI, it will be very difficult to argue we deserve an at-large when we can't finish in the top 4 of what is a mid-major baseball conference.  Luckily it looks as though the conference RPI could jump into the Top 10 before the year is over, but we can't allow another sweep, and quite frankly should have to win every conference series from here on out.

As mentioned, none of this matters if we win the conference tournament.  That is well within our abilities, and that is what I would love to see happen.

The Big East is currently the 13th on RPI just behind the Big Ten.

Here are the latest RPI

Louisville #41

USF #44

Rutgers #62

St Johns #77

Pitt #94

UConn #135

Notre Dame #136

Villanova #144

West Virginia #156

Seton Hall #159

Cincy #194

Georgetown #233

So while not out we must do better and starts with this series at UL. If we can win that series it could keep us in the running but we must finish no worse thn 3rd in the league to have a shot.

Bad weekends happen to the best of us, and do bad stretches (4-6 doesn't help). All it takes is us to get hot in the next couple of weeks and put together a run into the conference tourney.

With Otero and Delaney, I think we have a solid shot to pull out a BE tourney, and possibly a regional berth. Getting the offense on the same page, and having Sanford get back to his dominating self is the key.

big east is one of the weakest baseball conferences.  in baseball is totally different.  a lot of programs that you never hear of in any other sport are big baseball programs...

like Rice, Long Beach St, cal st fullerton, wichita St are all national powerhouses in baseball but that is all you hear from them.  this is the case with a lot of conferences as well.

Is the Big East that bad? Not as bad as suspected. But not as good as the really good conferences.

The problem is that the best conferences are way deep. The SEC is loaded every year. The ACC has a bunch of really good teams. Same with the Pac 12 and Big 12. Conference USA is laughable in football and basketball (save Memphis) but the baseball is very tough.

Once those conferences get their huge share of at-large bids, there aren't a lot left. And 6th place in any league not mentioned above won't get it done. On the other hand, this team is capable of turning it around. We failed Sunday in a gut check. We cannot do that again.

big 12 has another 3 teams, and zero from big east.

that is 13 of the at large bids right there.  not too mention the other teams in those conferences that have been ranked at some point like NC State, Kentucky, Oklahoma, southern cal.

there is no way that the big east gets 2 teams this year unless our top team loses in the conf finals.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
