USF vs. RU will be a good rivalry.  RU is (technically) ahead of us right now, at least in the media's eyes... but USF is sitting on a much better recruiting base and I think has a better team this year.

That and if you take away about 10-15 BOGUS referee calls (including that missed pass interference call at the 2pt conversion) from last year's game and we would have beaten them.

This years game should be fun and I think we can win...

On our side: RU lost a bunch of key seniors from last year's team.

Against us: it's only 5 days after the ucif game and it's at RU.  Short weeks suck.

It's not really a rivalry, but all conference games carry more meaning than others.

At least they are on the road at Syracuse when we play UCiF.  Don't matter though, we will still play.

I think this RUvsUSF rivalry has some legs with all the billboards up about the Rutgers program. Also, I notice that smazza hates Rutgers with a passion which makes this game more interesting. If both USF and Rutgers keep winning then a rivalry will be born in my opinion.

i know 7 rutgers alumni out in los angeles  and there is rivalry in football and basketball

we were last team to beat them in NJ so this year's game will be a great one

they dont care about any other sports

Consider, also, the large number of NY/NJ transplants down in the Bay area.

I know there's only a few of us here that will freely admit the facts, but here goes...

UCF is our rival.

Similar size, similar (lack of) tradition, short distance, both fighting for statewide and national recognition and we've each had our best home and away game crowds when we play each other.

Rutgers will be a great in-conference game, but it's never going to have the same feeling as a true rivalry game, as the UCF game does.

[smiley=roflmao.gif] ...... that's not a fact. Rivalry games are played for more than just Internet bragging rights and that's basically what that game is played for right now. Sure there are a few USF fans that try and pawn it off as a rivalry because they have UCF friends or whatever but they're just stretching it. With a true rivalry there is NO doubt about it, on either side.

If UCF gets into a BCS conference that would completely change the complexion of the situation. Until then, it's UCF and few small time thinking USF fans with all the rival garbage...

So the 100 times our baseball teams have played against one another don't count as a rivalry?  UCF is the closest thing we have to a rivalry at the moment.

Baseball?? Are you kidding me? We play, what, about 3 times a year ... midweek .... with absolutely nothing at stake.

The answer in no ....... IMO, anyway.

UCF is the closest thing we have to a rivalry at the moment.

I'd classify L'ville closer to a rival than UCF ..... and that's not that close yet. I guess there are just differing opinions on what constitutes a rivalry.

We brought more people to the UCF game than both of our bowl games and the Miami game combined and it's not a rival?

Our largest home crowd against UCF, and it's not a rival?

A larger crowd then us bringing in a ranked Rutgers or Louisville team and it's not a rival?

You're living in a dream world.

Sure, we're destroying them on and off the field right now, but that doesn't mean the rivalry ends.  West Virginia and Marshall is still a rivalry and West Virginia is lightyears ahead.
