Update for USF vs. UCF on SouthFloridaBulls.com?

With USF putting the smack down on UCF tonight in baseball, I wandered over to the southfloridabulls.com USF vs. UCF page.

I say take it down.  Just promotes a rivalry that we don't really want.

Yea...it should be changed.  It's like matching us up against FIU/FAU or somthing like that...its just not right.  They should do that same poll with us vs. Florida or Florida State.  Someone we'd COMPETE with.

Something to think about:

What does a USF/UCF rivalry do for USF?

    - Gives us a weak, non BCS, out of conference opponent.

    - Gives us decent home attendance numbers and a close "away" game to attend

Now consider this: What does a USF/UCF rivalry do for UCF?

Yeah, alot.

Obviously, UCF has way more to gain from a rivalry between our schools. USF has little to gain by playing UCF, and UCF has nothing to lose. Hence, you will rarely (if ever) find a UCF fan who is an opponent of a USF/UCF rivalry.

If USF got to play an annual game with FSU back in USF's C-USA days, who do you think that game would mean more to? USF fans, of course.

But the difference between a hypothetical USF/FSU rivalry and the USF/UCF "rivalry" is this:  USF fans are still somewhat insecure about our success. Therefore, many feel we need this game as "proof" that we are closer to the Big 3. At least, this is my best guess as to why we have certain USF fans promoting the rivalry.

I submit to you that Brad's site reinforces that, despite the feelings of many, the USF/UCF "rivalry" is a poor one at best. Sure, it can be heated at times (which makes it a fun game), but USF as an institution has really pulled away from UCF to the point that UCF will likely never catch up.

Therefore I support the site. It's a good check for USF fans to remember what league we're really in.
