Scouting Report for Villanova

Friday's game should be an interesting one.  Villanova will send righty ace Mike Loree (5-0) to the mound to face Danny Otero (6-4).  Loree is clearly the best pitcher on the 'Nova squad.  He has compiled a 2.38 ERA in just over 45 innings pitched.  In those outings he has only given up 45 hits with opponents owning a .259 batting average against him.  He has five wins on the season so far (Norfolk State, Alabama, Iona, Louisville, and Seton Hall).  In the Louisville game he pitched a complete game, four hit shutout.  His other two appearances were no decisions versus FAU and St. John's.  Should be a great matchup pitching wise.

Here are the leaders for Villanova offensively.  Derek Shunk leads the team with a gawdy .434 average, compiling 49 hits and 22 RBIs.  Next is Joe Cotter (.395), Robert Parks (.362), James Dolbier (.350), and Joe Rosati (.315).  Dolbier and Rosati lead the team in stolen bases with 11 each.  Not much power on this team, so they like to run from the looks of it.

Should be interesting...'Nova is 14-14 (3-6) but this match up doesn't seem to reflect that.

The most important thing is to take care of things defensively for us. This pitcher doesn't give up a lot hits which we are usually good at getting so I'm hoping for a bad outing from this guy. I can see a low scoring game for USF unless the bats are on fire.

He's only walked 8 batters so far this year, so it will be a tough matchup.  His only bad start was against FAU where he didn't go a full five innings.  Gave up 3 earned runs, so it wasn't horrible.  FAU is a good baseball team so it will be interesting to see how our guys hit him.
