Former Charlotte High baseball product Brandin Daniel is enjoying the kind of bounce-back season that gets noticed by pro scouts.

The junior first baseman for the University of South Florida is hovering near .300 at the plate, a season after seeing his average drop to .241.

A large reason for Daniel's improvement is new USF hitting coach Tino Martinez, the former Yankees first baseman. He said last week that Daniel has all the tools to be a legitimate first baseman in pro baseball.

And what if he's drafted in June?

"He'll have a tough decision to make," Martinez said.

The Bulls are at Villanova this weekend.

Nice little write up. Tino is the best possible mentor for any first baseman no matter where they are. Tino is a star player and a class act. I am thoroughly with all aspects of our Baseball team!! I can't wait for the home next home series.

BD is having a nice year, but it would serve him well to stay one more year with Lelo and Tino.  If I'm not mistaken Tino came back for his final year at UT and he said it was the best thing he could have possibly done in his baseball career.

Don't you remember that some people (students, alumni) are oblivious to everything USF. A lot of people connected to this university "just don't care!"

I hate to say this but BullsDude08 hit the nail on the head.  USF just does not market itself well at all!!!

Things will need to change for fans to get what they want on AND OFF the field.
