USF Softball Opens Up BIG EAST Action This Weekend

TAMPA, Fla. (March 29, 2007) – The University of South Florida softball team will open up conference action this weekend when it welcomes BIG EAST foes Rutgers and Villanova on Friday and Sunday.  

On Friday, the Bulls will face Rutgers in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. The first 250 fans will receive a free USF softball pennant. Both games will feature a live video broadcast on www.GoUSFBulls.com through the Press Pass.

USF welcomes Villanova in a two-game series on Sunday at noon. The first game of the doubleheader will be broadcast live on Catch 47 - Tampa Bay Sports Television and the official cable partner of USF Athletics. The broadcast will also be re-aired on April 2 at 9 p.m.

The Bulls (28-16) are coming off their last non-conference series of the season when they traveled to DeLand, Fla., and split games with Stetson (losing 2-1 and winning 1-0).  

USF is looking to get off to its start of a year ago in league games when it went 4-0 in its opening weekend. In 2006, USF swept the Villanova series, winning 2-0 and 7-0 on the road. Rutgers spoiled USF’s first ever BIG EAST regular season title chances when it took one of two games in the season finale, putting USF in second place.
