Dexter Butler Earns CBF National Player Of The Week Award

TAMPA, Fla. (March 26, 2007) – University of South Florida second baseman Dexter Butler earned his first College Baseball Foundation National Honor Roll “Player of the Week” award on March 27, after batting .600 in four games March 20-25.

Butler, a junior at USF, extended his hitting streak to nine games this week, notching nine hits in 15 at bats for his .600 average. He tallied seven RBI and three runs scored while drawing two walks and being hit by two pitches.

In the mid-week game with North Florida, Butler was 2-for-3 with two RBI, then tallied six assists and one put out in the first game with Notre Dame. Butler was 4-for-5 in the March 24 game at Notre Dame, registering one double with two RBI and two runs scored, then finished the week with a 2-for-4 outing with three RBI and one run scored on Sunday in Indiana.

Butler tallied multiple hits and multiple RBI in 3-of-4 games this week and had at least one put out per game defensively. The Key West, Fla., native had five put outs and 14 assists from second base throughout the four games this week.

Butler was one of 48 players across the nation to receive this week’s CBF award.

The College Baseball Foundation is dedicated to preserving college baseball history and to recognizing standout teams and individuals who have influenced the collegiate game.

Established as a 501©(3) charitable educational organization, the CBF hopes to not only catalog the sports' history within its newly announced College Baseball Hall of Fame, but to provide an aggressive and enduring advocacy for the college game. It views its primary mission as fostering an appreciation of the historical development of college baseball and its impact on our culture, and increasing public awareness, exposure and generating additional opportunities for college baseball.

The CBF will release a regular National Honor Roll, Feb 13th-May 22nd, saluting the finest performances of the past week's action as nominated by conference and university baseball media contacts.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
