Is it bad that I'm not sitting up nights worrying about whether Marshall likes USF, or whether or not Woolard (that's the correct spelling, kids) is moving fast enough to appease the folks who have nothing better to do than surf the web 24/7?  Or, worse, that I confidently accept the situation we're in and know that we've got proven leadership that will do everything they can to right the ship?

Fact is, guys, the USF Men's Basketball Program and it's Head Coaching Vacancy is what it is.  No amount of spin, wishing, rubbing magic lamps, voodoo, money, or message board ******** is going to bring a coach here if he doesn't want to enter the situation.  Personally?  I don't want a coach not up to the challenge, regardless of whether his name is Marshall, Doherty, Auerbach, or Jesus Christ.

As Bulliever has previously said, USF Basketball is a FANTASTIC OPPORTUNITY for the right coach, but if Marshall doesn't want to take the challenge, then he's not that "right coach".  Same goes for Grant, Doherty, or any other coach that would rather collect the easy paycheck than earn their cash in a tough but promising situation.

What you all might call apathy, I call trust.  And what you might call "being realistic" about the program, I call "worrying to the point of bleeding ulcers about things you have zero control over".  Honestly, who cares how many days it's been since our previous coach was let go?  Would you rather higher the wrong guy the next day or wait a month for the right one?  You don't get points for being first in this race, kids...

Woolard's been there before, he knows he'll make the right choice, and he's relaxed.  You all (you know who you are) should relax too... you'll live longer.

As Gump said, "That's all I have to say about that."

USF basketball needs to basically be looked at as a complete rebuilding process.

We can not think "we're in the Big East, so we're starting from..."

No.  We as fans need to think of the 2007 basketball like we did 1997 football.  Brand new.  Starting from the ground up.

Then we can ignore getting a coach with previous head coaching experience (see Leavitt, Jim).  We can find a good, young assistant willing to commit to making this his program.  The kind of guy who wants to be here for the very long term... so that he can have his name on the Sun Dome when he leaves (see Leavitt, Jim or Eriksen, Ken).

Yes, USF has the most potential of any mens program in the country... that's because the TOP of our conference is so amazingly far from where USF is.  (Potential = Dreams - Reality).  Any coach that wants to use USF as a stepping stone won't take the job.  (see Pelphrey, John or Marshall, Gregg).

So my suggestion is to find basketball's Jim Leavitt.  The assistant who is dying to prove he can not only be a good coach, but build a program from the ground up.

For that is where we are.  Rock bottom.

I'm going to get slammed for this, but I'll say it.

USF fans don't care about basketball.

We're a football school, and have been since the team was created.

The most popular story on this baord this weekend? Not the fact that Gregg Marshall was coming to the campus. A story that at Cincy, UConn, and Syracuse would be littering their board with rumors and speculation.

Our most popular stories?

- The suspension of our DBs

- Getting a USF issue of Athlon Sports

- Gregg Marshall on Campus

- Has Matt Grothe bulked up

That doesn't mean we don't have fans, because there are guys on here that live for USF basketball. The majority of our fanbase could care less about basketball, especially when there is football news out there to be discussed.

USF: A football school.

There is no reason we cant be both.

If we were winning people would care about Basketball.

The fact is our program sucks. We need to get a quality coach here that can win games. The fan's will show if we play well.

Never said we couldn't be both, but we're a long way from that.

I don't know... i think i'd take Jesus Christ as my coach in a heartbeat, even if he didn't give his all, we'd still go 34-0 every year, and never miss a free throw.  And we'd beat down Duke Blue Devils every year, just out of principle.  ;)

I don't know, man, Jesus Christ never had the size to take on the big men under the net.  Plus, his team would get called for Walking (on water) every game...

*Badda bing!*

Thank you, I'll be here all week, tip your waitress.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
