I put this in another thread, but it's good info, so I posting it in its own thread.

My office mate is a UK fan, lives and dies. He's had local Cincy and UK broadcasts on all morning with hopes of hearing coaching news. Here is what a journalist said (No clue who it is, but he sounded confident)

Lots of Donovan/Calipari/Izzo talk, but the show has tried to branch and did talk a lot about Travis Ford and John Pelphrey

Pelphrey:

Someone on the radio here (Cincy) said today that he wants to stay because he returns all 5 starters to USA. They don't think he'll get offered the UK job, and they don't think he's limiting himself to just it. They think he'd take the UK job in a heart beat, but they also don't think he stands a chance of getting an offer unless he's the last coach standing.

Pelphrey hasn't declined any jobs yet, and USF and Marshall have shown the most interest. They don't believe he's interested in either, simply because he likes the team he returns next year. Marshall has turned to UF assistants Donnie Jones and Larry Shyatt, with Jones expected to take the job.

They do believe that if Calipari goes to UK, he (Pelphrey) could be one of the candiates at Memphis because of his familarity with the gulf states/tennessee recruiting region.

Gregg Marshall:

Only toughed for a milisecond when discussing other coaching rumors. Gregg Marshall's rumored numbers are closer to 650k at USF, NOT the 800k reported yesterday. Winthrop is offering 300-400k, they aren't sure what he's going to do, they believe he's really torn on this decision.

Iowa:

For the Iowa job they mentioned the usual names. Grant, Lowery, Lon Kruger, and Lickliter. They don't expect Kruger to take the Iowa job, simply because they believe he will be the top candidate for Michigan.

Sean Miller

Sean Miller sand Xavier agreed to an extension through 2015, so he's off the market.

Pete Gillen:

Finally, Pete Gillen is really not as interested in the USF job as once believed. It's being said that he interviewed out of respect for Dickie V who publicly lobbied for the job. They believe Gillen is happy in broadcasting for now, and if he does return it will be at a smaller school, not the gauntlet the Big East is.

A lot of the coaching information Joe posted is found here:

Winthrop's Gregg Marshall isn't a candidate. He has been offered the South Florida job by Athletic Director Doug Woolard, who traveled to Rock Hill, S.C., Tuesday to meet with Marshall, according to ESPN.

The Bulls are offering a contract in the neighborhood of $650,000. In hopes of keeping Marshall, Winthrop officials have countered with a new contract worth $400,000.

Pete Gillen isn't a candidate, either. The former coach turned broadcaster was interviewed for the South Florida job, but it may have been out of respect for ESPN basketball's **** Vitale, who lobbied on and off the air for Gillen.

Although Gillen isn't going to get the South Florida job, he doesn't appear to have any interest in Marshall.

Former Herd assistant John Pelphrey also appears to be a reach. The highly successful South Alabama head coach also interviewed for the South Florida job, according to the Tampa Tribune.

Other than the fact that Pelphrey is from eastern Kentucky, it's hard to figure what would make Marshall an attractive job to him. At best, it would be a lateral move for Pelphrey.

The fact that this guy references the Tampa Trib and states that Marshall WAS offered the job when even Marshall denies it makes me question the credibility of all this guy writes...I think it just recycled stuff - does anyone call and quote a source anymore?

When did online reporting become self-supporting rumor-mongering?

Gotta remember that Gillen was the coach at Xavier for awhile so he does have contacts still around the Cincy area. The guy on the radio (who I still don't know who it was) seemed to have talked to Gillen personally.

Just to note, Gillen was getting a push for the Cincy job last year, which he declined early.

Just because he wants the job doesn't make him the right choice.  Heck, i'd love the job... but if you thought mac was bad... watch out  :)

I'd prefer Pelphry, Lowery, OR Marshall over Gillen.

I agree. I think the three mentioned above are better "fits" for our program over Gillen.

But USF should hire me over you, I'll even take a class on coaching.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
