I know that the BIG EAST gets some nice money to all the schools if their teams win in the NCAA tourny, but do the wins in the NIT get money for all the schools in the BIG EAST?? If so, I dont think it will be a lot, but at least it is something. After watching WVU beat NC ST, I know realise that the ACC only has UNC left in either the NCAA or the NIT while the BIG EAST still has 5 teams left (Syracuse, Depaul, Pitt, GTown, and WVU). Any info is appreciated. Thanks

Not sure what it's like now that the NCAA owns it. Formally any money made by the NIT depended on crowds, about 2-3k per round for each team.

The NCAAs by comparison paid 175k per round won last year. (Does not include playin game)

In reality the money made off the NIT is nothing, and probably doesn't affect shares much.

As for the NCAAs the payouts aren't great (when compared to football), and the BE definitly is taking a hit this year.

I beg the differ that the BIG EAST is doing that bad. Remember that this is supposed to be a down year and all with all the players getting drafted in the NBA last season. I expect the BIG EAST to be even stronger next season with all this young talent getting a year under their belt.  The ACC took the major hit this season with all that talk about they are the top conference and all. They didnt deserve the 7 teams if you look at things now.  BIG 10 only has one team too in both NIT and NCAA which is never a good thing.  The BIG EAST will be fine with that new TV contract kicking in next season.

The women won their second round game on Monday as they had a first round bye. They play Virginia in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

GO BULLS!

Not Invited Tourney... enuff said. Any and all money from that tourney should goto future recruits to ensure we don't end up there again!

BullDaly, not sure about the money aspect, but the ACC also has Clemson left in the NIT.  As a matter of fact Syracuse plays at Clemson tonight on ESPN.  The Cuse put over 26,000 in the Carrier Dome the other night and they don't get another home game do to Clemson being a higher cede (sp) in the tourney.  It used to not be this way.  NITs always had the team that bring in more fans the home team.

Where in God's green earth did I say the Big East is doing bad? I said they were going to take a hit this year. Which is very obvious and true...

The NCAA pays out to conferences based upon prior years performance, over the past six years.  For this year the BE has 83 units (1 unit = 1 game, except championship) Whcih is the number of games palyed by the BE in the NCAA tourney in 2001 - 2006.  In 2001 the BE played 10 games which will come out of that 83 at the end of this years tourney, dropping us to 73 plus the games played this year.  If the BE does not win in the next round the games to be added is 11 so next year the BE will have 84 units.  This year each unit is worth about $170,000.  The NCAA will probably use a similar method for the NIT.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
