Diaz Earns First BIG EAST Honor After Batting .533 Last Week

TAMPA, Fla. (March 19, 2007) –  The University of South Florida shortstop Walter Diaz batted .533 in four games this week, with eight hits in 15 at bats, earning a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the week ending  March 18.

The Miami native notched his first home run of the season and his ninth double of the year last week while drawing three walks.  

In four games, three of which were against BIG EAST opponent Pittsburgh, Diaz topped the team with 12 total bases, and four stolen bags. His .800 slugging and .611 on base percentage were both team highs as well.  

Diaz, who led the Bulls to a 3-1 week, connected on three put outs and had seven assists with no errors from short stop.

Great week by Walt, Congrats.  I know he's the new guy on the team and all, but as Walt goes, USF goes.  Its pretty obvious when you see a game live.  If you listen to the Prado interview on presspass, you'll realize it too.
