No disrespect here, but I am tired of these "mid major" coaches. RMC didn't translate his experience from CMU, or was it WMU?.. well over here. Why do we think Hobbs can do it? I am positive DW will do what he thinks is best for USF and the program.

If they beat Vandy, I'll give him more respect.

So one game will determine if he's a good coach or not?

Your the same guy that claimed we were at minimum a NIT team after shelving a terrible Norfolk State team.

Didn't you claim that McCullum would be back after we beat ND?

Don't live so by the moment, look at the whole picture. This guy would be a great get.

Then who do you suggest? There isn't really a big name outside Jarvis or Gillen out there. I don't want Jarvis because of his past violations. Gillen would be a good get I believe.

That being said, the job isn't very attractive, we're going to have to go the Mid-Major route. RMC was a decent midmajor coach. He took over a WMU program that had 2 losing seasons in 9 years and got them back on that winning track. I don't believe he was near as accomplished at the midmajor level as what we have here.

Guys,

THis is Karl Hobbs.  A guy who won something like 28 games last year.

He was Jim Calhoun's bench assitant for probably close to a decade.

He single handily picked GW up off the floor and made them the #2 ranked team in the country last year.

Are you crazy?

Honestly I am shocked he is even interested if its true.

It tells me he wants to coach in the Big East against his former boss.

He would be the biggest addition in USF history.

He is ten fold an Anthony Grant.

This is a guy who re-built a struggling program.

One key advantage for Hobbs (if USF hires him) is that he has unbelievable Northeast/Big East recruiting connections...something RMC did not have.

Even though GW is a well-known International Univ...his Basketball roster is still made up of mostly kids from the DC to Hartford, CT Northeast Corridor...aka...BIG EAST COUNTRY!

I don't think it would be too hard to convince a kid that might of gotten looked over by Georgetown, Cuse, UCONN, etc...and gave the chance to play in the Big East...but in Tampa, FL.

That may not be that hard of a sell to make.

Basketball..maybe more so than any other sport (because of the low number of players on the roster...and few number of recruits you can sign every year) realize more on recruiting...than all the others.

If a Coach doesn't have good connections...especially in the Conf you are playing in, that only increases your chance at success.

Yes...RMC was with Krug at UF and Illinois...but Hobbs has been successful as a head coach in the SAME REGION where most of the Big East players come from. (As well obviously as a top asst at UCONN).

That could be the difference maker.

My picks have been Steve Lavin and Gilispie (coach at Texas A&M) because both guys have a name and experience at a good program. I know the $$ issue exists, but these are my choices.

you actually believe gillispie is going to leave A&M for usf?? thats laughable. there's no way that a guy is going to leave a team like A&M with as much tradition that they have to come to usf. give me a break

Here's what you should do.

Get a pocket knife.

Go to your toilet.

Take that ziplock of coke and cut it open, flush it. (I'm just giving you crap, don't worry)

Gilispie! He's not leaving the sweet gig he has at Texas A&M to come rebuild USF. Lets please be serious.

I think Lavin would be a possibility if we had the money. He wanted 1.2M from NC State and is currently making about 750k in an easy, cushy job at ESPN, apprently he's happy there so drawing him away will be hard.

Thats the problem right now, people are overvaluing what the basketball job is worth. It's really not the greatest job available if you step back and look.

I was looking at GW's schedule and thought the same thing..so soft, it was almost UCF-like.

They played some real patsies early on...(some of) our fans would decry such a schedule.  they lost to average and above non-con teams.  Sagarin has their SOS at 170 - USF's is 111...for the record UCF's was worse than GW - at 231
