Basketbull. What do you want for this program? Hobbs has been unbelievable for GW!

Three NCAA tournies in a row, in a decent conference like the A-10. SO what if he was an assistant so long, you never know the reason why. Anthony Grant chose to be an assistant for several years before taking the WCU job this past year.

I'd put Karl Hobbs up on the list.

I have certain expectations...

When USF pulled the trigger on a coach with 2 years remaining, who by all standards, was a good mid-major coach, that tells me that they feel they can do better; they weren't willing to sit around to see if the same coach would turn the corner in another year. [by no means am I saying that I  was for giving the last staff another year.]

So, if USF is going shopping, I expect at least twice as better than what the last coaching experiment.

Hobbs, I feel is not 2X better, just better.

Give the last staff another year or hire Hobbs, it is not much of a difference in my mind.

BasketBull,

If you are going to say that Hobbs has had a soft schedule then you might as well through in Bobby Lutz and Travis Ford since they are coaching in the same conference as Hobbs. What makes Hobbs attractive for me is that he was an assistant under a big name BIG EAST coach. Sure he was the second assistant under Calhoun, but Dave Leiteo has become an excellent head coach for both Depaul and now Virginia. I will take my chances on Hobbs if we can get him.

My only problem with him is his weak recruiting. Look on Scouts.com, he's got nothing going on...

That's not all that surprising, if you ask me.  He's trying to sell George Washington U., a great school for sure, but hard to convince the kids who want to play in the Big East/ACC/SEC, etc.

Really, it's a testament to his coaching ability to take less-than-stellar talent and win like they have.

I trust he'd be able to recruit Big East talent at USF.

I like what I see from Hobbs so far.  I think he'll be high on Woolard's list.

Yes, he'd be okay, but he's not star like Lowerie from Southern Ill.

That guy would make our place buzz in excitement.

Beggers can't be choosers.  This basketball program isn't Duke or UNC.  This is probably as good as we'll ever get.  We gotta get this guy.

Basketbull. You don't think Hobbs would be a "star" like SIU's Lowery? Lowery is in his SECOND year as a head coach. SECOND at a school that had success before he got there. GW was decent before Hobbs got there but not 3 consecutive years in the NCAAs good.

I think your looking too much at name.

GW won the A10 tournament and while not a power conference, it's still a respectable mid-major.

Their non-confernce losses came to Providence, USC, and Air Force.  They lost to UMass, Xavier, Dayton; they spilt with St. Louis and St. Josephs.

They beat VaTech, Richmond twice, and Charlotte twice.

That looks pretty good to me.

If they beat Vandy we may not be able to afford him.   :)

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
