Pelphrey is the best candidate on the short list, in my opinion.  Up here in Wilcat Country (Lexington, KY), many have speculated that he's on UKs "watch list" for consideration should UK continue to fail to meet expectations (Final Four EVERY STINKING YEAR).

Kentucky needs to worry about beating Florida every year and not the Final Four.  I like Pelphrey too though.  Any disciple of Rick Pitino is good enough for me.

Can someone please give a 1 or 2 line background summary on these candidates? Maybe their most recent couple of coaching gigs. I don't recognize a couple of names on the list. Is Pete Gillen the former Virginia head coach?

Yep, Pete Gillen was the former Digger Phelps assistant at ND, then went to Xavier, I think, and then Virginia.  Didn't do much at UVA which got him canned.  I always thought he was a good coach, but for some reason didn't bring UVA back to the promised land of college hoops.

I know him as the guy that said "Duke is Duke, they're on TV more than 'Leave it to Beaver' reruns."

Not a big Pete Gillien fan here.

UVA was not very good when he was there.....and fan support was in the toilet.

If they hire Mike Jarvis I am going to drink a nice pain-killer martini and go to bed forever.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE  don't hire Mike Jarvis.

Bobby Lutz, Karl Hobbs and Travis Ford should be the only real candidates we are looking at right now.

If we can't get any of those guys then we just put the basketball program on the shelf for a few years and use to money to build that cafeteria CJL wanted.

didn't Jarvis take a couple of his St John's teams pretty deep into the tourney? I remember the sqaud with ROn Artest was pretty strong.

Yeah -- not sure they went deep in the tourny but there def ranked higher.

I am waiting for the resident St. Johns expert Mr. Herman Momart to chime in.

I am more of a Hofstra guy.

He seems to have some attachement to Queens.

Go figure.

I agree with the sheriff. I DO NOT WANT any gators coaching our program. Let's keep the program pure. Please, no gators, no Mike Jarvis or Bobby Lutz. I like Karl Hobbs or Lickliter ....

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
