Brett has some good stuff on possible coaches on his blog...

n the next few weeks, the number of folks hoping to become the next University of South Florida men’s basketball coach will likely increase daily, but there is at least one candidate on USF’s wish list that can be scratched off - VCU’s Anthony Grant.

The former Florida assistant who has guided the Rams (27-6) to the NCAA Tournament in his first season is not interested in the USF position, several sources said.

Grant was initially one of six candidates I projected as the most likely candidates to replace Robert McCullum. And what I’ve been told is the remaining five - (in alphabetical order) Travis Ford, Pete Gillen, Bobby Lutz, Sean Miller and John Pelphrey - remain in play.

While former Villanova coach Steve Lappas tossed his hat in the ring to be considered for the USF job, a couple of other former coaches are also pursuing the position - Mike Jarvis and Cliff Ellis.

So the list is ... at the very least...

Travis Ford

Pete Gillen

Boby Lutz

Sean Miller

John Pelphyrey

Steve Lappas

Mike Jarvis

Cliff Ellis

Should be interesting to see if any other names jump in...

We need to get Mike Jarvis at USF. He would be an interesting hire.

Lavin and Majerus are making great money at ESPN. They aren't giving up their cushy studio job to come coach at USF unless the salary is worth it, meaning $1M +

Lavin wanted $1.2 from NC State last year, Majerus signed for over$1M at USC in 2004 before backing out of the job.

USF unfortunately does not need to sign a coach for that much and then not have any money to make much needed improvements to basketball facilities, etc.

I can personally guarentee 100% without a doubt that Sean Miller of Xavier will not be coming here.

My choice on that list is Travis Ford.

I like Mike Jarvis myself... or Bobby Lutz. Anthony Grant can kiss my ass. I don't want another f*cken Gator coaching at USF! Let's keep our program pure!

Sheriff is right in that the last former UF assistant didnt work the last time in McCullum. Why would we want to use that same route again?? No offense to Grant, but coaching in the BIG EAST may be out of his league right now. Ditto for maybe Lutz too. We need a BIG EAST coach like Mike Jarvis or at least former UConn assistant Karl Hobbs to coach at USF.

Under Jarvis's watch SJU went on probation, I don't really like that.

I'm sure Herm the Worm will chime in here when he next logs in.  8-)

There's no way they hire Jarvis.
