I'm with Collin. The John Thompson talk is ridiculous. It's a good things for fans to be ambitious, another to be naive. For the most part, a lot of good thoughts here ...

Jim,

He had coached more consecutive seasons at the D-1 level without an NCAA appearance before today.  Sorry if I phrased that wrong.  And congrats to him for the nod today, Va Tech is a dangerous team that's for sure.

I like a couple of the names that have been thrown out..Dougherty and Marshall. I think they are both good coaches.

But, and this is a biggie, here's the one I'd like to see:

Bob Huggins. Yep, THAT guy. And, B4 you chew my head off like I'm sure many of you will, here's why:

1. He's a GREAT coach. Plan & simple. Regardless of his past he knows how to win.

2. He's got something to prove. Guessing there is a BIG chip on his shoulder and he wouldn't like

anything better than to stick it to some teams in the Big East.

3. He's a name and that name would start an INSTANT stir in recruiting, media exposure, and ticket

   sales.

4. He's in a football conference coaching a team that isn't going anywhere. Could probably get him out

of there without giving up the farm.

5. He knows he made mistakes and they most likely won't happen again.

6. He'd turn this thing around ONCE & FOR ALL.

Kentucky would be the best place for Huggins to land if they really think he's rehabilitated. He could immediately reopen all those recruiting doors he had in Ohio, while still being able to show up at kids' houses and say "We're Kentucky, come play for us."

Plus he would want and could probably demand the kind of salary that only a Kentucky or a couple other places could afford.

You're right.  My fault.... the latest win we have in the NIT was the Elite Eight in '95, where we lost to Marquette under Paschal.

Chucky ..... free throws .... my heart still aches.

Here's who else that were mentioned before USF made the last 2 hires:

2003

Maryland assistant Dave Dickerson, Butler's Todd Lickliter, Holy Cross coach Ralph Willard, USF assistant David Zimroth, and uf assistant Anthony Grant.

1996

George ""Tic'' Price of New Orleans, Willis Wilson (Rice), Matt Kilcullen (Western Kentucky) and Herb Sendek (Miami of Ohio).

Gotsta go with Anthony Grant (who I have been pumping up for the job since January).

Living about 10 minutes from the VCU campus, I can tell you they love him here in Richmond.  And why not?

This guy is a heck of a coach/recruiter that could have easily had a head coaching position several years ago if he had wanted it.

We need to go after this guy HARD with lots of $$, incentives, and promises that will be fulfilled.  He'll bring in some of the best in the state of FL (and the southeast), and then he'll coach them the right way too.

I posted this in another thread but thought I'd copy it in for comparison.

My realistic list:

1. Karl Hobs - George Washington - Young and has been associated with the Big East before.  He would probably love to battle UConn.

2. Chris Lowery - So Illinios - Young and ready to build a career in a top conference

3. Scott Sutton - Oral Robers - see a trend....another young hard worker

4. Jeff Bzdelik - Air Force - very experiened.  Great X & O's but probably wants to go back to the NBA.

5. Best available coach fired after a first round loss in this year's NCAA's

My wish list:

1. Anthony Grant - Wanted him as the #1 choice 4 years ago and that hasn't changed

2. Mark Gottfried after he gets fired from Alabama (may not happen until next year though)

3. Todd Lickliter - Would love to have him on board but he's got it too good at Butler and will be looking much higher than USF.

4. Reggie Theus - Former NBA'er but the buyout will not allow it to happen.

5. Steve Alford after he gets fired from Iowa - A man can dream right.

Same thing came to my mind 3b.  I still can remember how far that ball went in and thought no way he didn't make it but the dam thing came out.

I still cannt believe anyone wants Matt Dougherty.
