Bulls In Seventh After 36 Holes Of SunTrust Lady Gator

TAMPA, Fla. (March 10, 2007) – The University of South Florida women’s golf team is in seventh place following the first 36 holes of the SunTrush Lady Gator Invitational held at the University of Florida Golf Course in Gainesville.  

Florida, the host school, leads the team standings with a 293-292 – 585, followed by TCU at 588 and Michigan State’s 589.  

Florida’s Sandra Gal is atop the leaderboard with a 1-under-par 139, while Catherine Matranga (TCU) is in second at 141 and Marci Turner of Tennessee is third at 144.  

Junior Christina Jones leads the Bulls with a 7-over-par 147, which ties her for 10th overall. Junior Kylene Pulley and senior Daniella Ronderos are both tied for 32nd at 152. Pulley carded a 78-74 while Ronderos shot a 77-75 on the first day.  

Senior Jessica Buchta is just two strokes behind the pair at 154 (76-78) and sophomore Gennifer Mendez trails Butcha by two, at 82-74 – 156.  

After the SunTrust Lady Gator, the Bulls will host the USF-Waterlefe Invitational on March 19-20. The event will be played at the Waterlefe Golf and River Club in Bradenton, Fla. Tee times on both days will begin at 8 a.m., with participants playing 36 holes on the first day and just one round of 18 holes on Tuesday.

Jones Jumps To Fourth, Bulls Take Fifth At SunTrust Lady Gator

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (March 10, 2007) – Junior Christina Jones led the University of South Florida women’s golf team to a fifth-place finish at the SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla., this weekend.  

Jones, who led the field with 43 pars throughout the two-day event, carded a team-low 73-74-70 – 217 for the Bulls at the University of Florida Golf Course.  

Florida, the host school, won the tournament, carding a 36-over-par 876. TCU was 14 strokes behind at 890 and Michigan State took third with a 52-over-par 892.  

Individually, Sandra Gal of Florida took home medalist honors, registering an even 210. Catherine Matranga of TCU was second at 215 and Caroline Westrup of Florida State was 6-over-par (216).  

Senior Daniella Ronderos carded a 13-over-par 223 (77-75-71) to place 16th while junior Kylene Pulley was seven strokes back at 230 (78-74-78).  

Senior Jessica Buchta and sophomore Gennifer Mendez posted 236 and 237, respectively, to round out the individual scoring for the Bulls.
