Please don' t knock Central Utah State....they are going dancing!  ;D I'm sorry, but I hate seeing all these "mid major" teams make the tournament 7th time out of 9 seasons. We are in a conference that if we finished in the top 8, our bid chances go up dramatically.

As for DW, I might be ignorant here, but how is it a financial situation? I think he is just trying to figure out when to drop the bomb, and not affect the tournament.

Did anyone read the article of the DePaul game? I couldn't believe what I read what RMC was saying.

The financial situation is that USF isn't exactly swimming in money and resources.  Letting Mac go is an easy decision if we're UF, they have the money to go get a better and bigger named coach.  I'm not sure USF does.  So now, do you let the guy go just to hire some no named unproven coach for a bargain basement price.  That might get USF more of the same with a different name, that defeats the purpose of letting Mac go and it happens for more money

RMC is not a winner, point f'n blank. His record was 45-55(I beleive) when he was coaching Western Mich in the Mac. He has outdone himself with an even worse record here at USF. Give me a break. Fire the guy.

Well, Brett will have two immediate options upon the announcement:

McCullum fired - McMurphy:  " I told you so"

McCullum retained - McMurphy:  "USF Not Serious About Basketball"

You are probably right.

If RMC is fired....Brett was the first to spell out why.

If RMC is retained...he would be right again as for any coach to have a 10-54 Conf record after 4 years...but STILL isn't fired...no one at USF can say with a straight face that they are serious about USF Hoops.

Before disparaging the guy, you should delve a little deeper.  As you may not know, he turned around his previous program and they have since gone on to the NCAAs - the next year I believe.

He inherited a poor program - WMU, albeit a MAC school, and turned then around.  Prior to that he was considered one of the top assistants in the country and one likely to become a head coach at a "good" program.

Courtesy GoUSFBulls.com:

In just three seasons at Western Michigan, McCullum helped increase the team’s win total from seven to 20 games.  That success led to a rare postseason appearance for the school.

He guided WMU to a 20-11 record in 2002-03.  The Broncos had posted a 20-win season only three times in the program's previous 89 seasons.  WMU was 10-8 in the Mid-American Conference West Division and finished third for the second straight season.

WMU defeated Illinois-Chicago in the opening round of the 2003 National Invitation Tournament.   The NIT appearance was the school's second and the victory was WMU's first in the event.  The postseason appearance was just the fourth in school history.

In 2001-02 the Broncos put together a 17-13 record and finished third in the MAC West Division at 10-8.  The overall record was an improvement of 10 victories over McCullum's inaugural season at WMU and the turn-around was the seventh best in college basketball that season.

WMU registered non-conference victories against Michigan in each of McCullum's last two seasons.  The Broncos also earned a win at eventual 2003 NCAA Sweet 16 participant Auburn.

As Emil Faber once said: "Knowledge is Good."

With both smazza and this  [smiley=loser.gif]  echoing their sentiments, you'd think it would get the darksiders to take a step back and re-evaluate their situation.

And with every opposing Big East Head Coach who is in need of conference wins taking your position (please, please, please, Mr. Woolard......don't fire Coach McCullum!!), one would think you guys would re-evaluate YOUR position.

I understand it would take $$$ to hire a new coach, but where are the results? We are the ONLY BE team to NOT make the BE Tournament.

I agree with that Huggies wasn't our type of guy, but what does it take to get at least ONE road conference win? If you are only going to win at home, better make sure it is a quality opponent.  :)

I think MAC stays but Woolard lays down "GOALS THAT MUST BE MET!"

- Winning record

- Make the Big East Tourney

- Make it to the NITs

Woolard can safe face and money with an ultimatium!

And then when every single one of those goals is unmet, we'll be here in March of 2008 doing this all over again.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
