Why not build on The Claw golf course...huge waste of land.

Sure, take something that is used everyday by the golf teams, students, faculty, staff and others in the community for recreation and turn it into a facility that is used 6 or 7  times a year for football, when there is a first class stadium available only a few minutes away at minimal cost..  

Oh and while your at it why not get rid of the tennis courts, basketball courts and other recreational areas and pave the entire campus thus alleviating the parking shortage.

The mall would be a great place for a stadium....plenty of room for parking/tailgating plus restuarants, bars, stores selling USF gear and much better ingress/ egress then the main campus.

Think of the parking snafus for basketball (tomorrow for the ND game) and then try and picture what it would be like with a football stadium right next to the Sun Dome.

Nope. Disney (the company) didn't make "secret" land deals.  As a private citizen, it purchased land by setting up subsidiaries.  A lot of companies who want to build very large projects do this (a recent example is a development along I-275 between Dale Mabry and Himes, the parcels were purchases using a number of subsidiary companies).  This may seem "shady" or "secretive", but a private company was merely trying to protect its interests from speculators.

Now, remember Florida law requires USF to do these kinds of things in public view.  So any effort to buy land will be voted by the USF Board of Trustees OR the Board of the USF Foundation.

I'm not a huge Disney fan and whatnot, but their purchase of the land was one of the greatest moves a corporation has ever made. I forget the name of the book, but there is a great one that recounts the situation step for step.

For football, most on campus stadiums I have been to reconfigure routes ot make traffic flow better.

If the mall is sold to private investors, and eventually torn down and replaced with apartments, condos, stores, offices and other businesses...it will no longer be an option for the future expansion of USF.

I wonder how this rumor was started...Ive been hearing about it from random customers at work and such...I really do hope its true...and with USF wanting a new lease with RJS giving them a 5 year option, i wouldnt be surprised if there is something brewin in the athletic dept...

How could USF reconfigure Fowler Ave?  How about ingress/egress to Fletcher?  I suppose they could double deck Maple, or maybe the Lee Roy Selmon Expessway could be relocated to provide direct access to/from the campus from I-275 and I-75 :

Perhaps the best soultion for the stadium would be aquiring land and building out off I-75....Oh wait! USF would be sued if drunk students were killed on their way to or from that remote location, so I that's out of the question
