ORLANDO, Fla. - Bowl Championship Series partners trimmed their list of potential fifth BCS bowls from 12 to nine, eliminating the Motor City, Liberty and Continental Tire bowls.

Big 12 Commissioner Kevin Weiberg faxed letters to all 12 bowls Wednesday afternoon. Weiberg, who recently took over the role as BCS coordinator from Big East Commissioner Mike Tranghese, delivered good news to all three Florida bowls in the running - Capital One, Gator and Outback.

"We felt comfortable all along that we'd be in the mix until the very end. We're not surprised, but we're pleased," Florida Citrus Sports Executive Director Tom Mickle said.

"The important thing is to keep qualifying," Gator Bowl President Rick Catlett said, "just make sure you're still part of the process as it goes along."

Pressure from five non-BCS conferences to gain greater access into the four-bowl alignment has pushed BCS presidents to agree to add a fifth bowl to the mix beginning with the 2006 season. All 11 conference commissioners are hashing out a small cluster of new postseason models.

Mickle, Catlett and others believe the next wave of BCS cuts could take a while. The Big Ten and Pac-10 are in the midst of talks to redo their deal with the Rose Bowl, and the BCS is about to enter an exclusive window to re-negotiate its deal with ABC.

"We're still in the game, but I still think we're in the bottom of the first inning," Mickle said. "Lot of time left."

I really can't see the Citrus Bowl getting it with their stadium.  I think it wll be either Gator or Cotton.

Liberty Bowl is too cold which hurts attendence. The BCS bowl will be in a warm city to reward the teams and fans.

None of them will get a game... it will either be the current 4 plus 1 at same location.. or 4 games total.  the big 4  will not go for adding a 5th bowl game... TV doesnt really want it either.
