Football is ready for B.E., but what about bball?

Normally, I'd be more willing to wait and wait...

But I'm coming back to school when we play in the Big East, and I do not want to show up every game and leaving dejected.

So what does bball have to do to get ready?

Phase I: new staff / Housecleaning

OK. Done. It couldn't have been more thorough.

Phase II: Rebuilding

We've got in one recruiting class, and just signed another one. But officially, I call it 1 1/2 recruiting class, considering the timing and so forth.

What does the team need to do in this next season?

Target higher caliber players in the recruiting process.

Get the Tampa area more excited about Bulls basketball.

Tampa embraces winners. When we start to win we will get the home-town love like the Bucs and Ligthning.

Fan attendance is nice and all, but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it - the path to B.E. success does not require large crowds at our games.

At this point, it's all about Coach Mac establishing his team, while at the same time dealing with a major talent upgrade. I still think if falls back on the coach, though - you saw what he did in Year #1 with the purging of the attitudes - now he has to take it from here and build a competitive team.

I don't see why we shouldn't be up to speed for the Big East in 2-3 years, but I wouldn't expect any post-season for a while

A well-coached team should be able to play .500 ball no matter what conference - but when you're talking about challenging 6-8 top-25 schools for NCAA/NIT berths every year, it's going to take a little more time for the Bulls to get there.

Attendance attracts recruits.  They want to play in packed arenas.  Not ones where you can hear the crickets chirping.

need to recruit big men next two years

now you pull one above avg point guard in 2-3 yrs and

you are  now competetive in the BE where middle of the pack gets you to ncaa or nit routinely

good strategy there are few good big men out there get in BE first then make major push for them, similar to our quarterback situation in football

Coaches and winning attract recruits.

Miami has done pretty well in the BE, and they draw worse than we do (if you can believe it.) They only started to suck when they switched coaches.

Football is ready for the BE?  Not until we get a legit D1 QB IMO.  Basketball?  Not gonna touch that one.
