I really do bullieve that Grant Gregory can do the job next year as a dependable back up. I know that he was the best option we had this year as a # 2 quaterback but Pat was given the duty because he had senoirity and experience. He got hurt at the start of the season and is trying to get a medical redshirt for this year. He does great in practice and make all the correct reads in the passing game, but lacks game experience. I know he will be a dependable back up next year but I hope Grothe can stay healhty. With the new addition of Ford and getting Plancher back it should lower the quaterback run game which will give us a whole new demention on offense. It will be interesting how the offense shapes up in the off season.

... and is trying to get a medical redshirt for this year. ...

Having surgery on his thumb and should be ready for Spring, his shoulder seems to have healed well.

Hope he gets that RS.

Mike Ford alone doesn't mean Big East Champs next year, but it sure won't hurt!  I'm salivating thinking of a backfield with Ford, Plancher, and Ponton to compliment Grothe.

Here's how I see next year shaping up:

QB- Grothe needs to stay healthy and Gregory develop into a reliable backup.

RB - 3 headed monster until Ford gets his legs.

WR- No woories about Jackson, Johnson, Edwards, and Amp Hill.  Look for Hester, Carlton Hill, and maybe Mitchell to break through.

TE and FB- need a few guys to step up.  Not a huge part of the offense, so if there is an area of concern, let this be it.

OL- Need to develop some more quality depth.  Hopefully add 2 FR tackles.  Starting 5 is solid and Tolley and Griffin are solid backups.

DL-This could be the strength of the team.  Selvie and Julmiste were unstoppable late in 2006.  Add Robinson back into the mix at DT with experienced Cray, Clebert, and George.  The line is deep and talented.

LB- Moffit is the man.  Looks like McKenzie will join him which is awesome.  That leaves Robinson to hold off numerous other young studs.  This unit is deep with talent, although a little short on experience.

CB-Lockdown City with Williams and Jenkins.  Quality depth.

S- I look for Gachette to emerge as SS, if not then Allen.  We should be fine here.

In short, this team should have plenty of depth to overcome most injuries, and is solid just about everywhere.  Looks like a Big East Title contender to me.  Can't wait for next year!

Having a good running game other than the QB will limit the injuries to Grothe. really only two. but one just bothered him all year then the break in the bowl.... if you recall every injury was on a designed run??? he will still run 5 or so times a game and then when things break down but not through the meat of the D.. he will be fine if we get a good back!!!

did he have any problems in HS or were these just frak things that happened this yr?

hope he is doing well

i only recall 1 time where the trainer even had to come onto the field in matts entire highschool career.  they were freak things...and by freak things i mean stop running our franchise up the middle on designed runs!!!!

And I have heard about some of the other RS'd FR ... feel that this unit will be an improvement.

TE and FB- need a few guys to step up.  Not a huge part of the offense, so if there is an area of concern, let this be it.

Hear that Ce. Hill has been doing well and wouldn't be surprised to see Ca. Hill in there basicly as a 4th/5th WR also.

OL- Need to develop some more quality depth.  Hopefully add 2 FR tackles.  Starting 5 is solid and Tolley and Griffin are solid backups.

Also look for McCaskill or Warren to hopefully add depth at Center. Hopefully we recruit some young Tackles this class or land a OT from JuCo with Watson's talent.

LB- Moffit is the man.  Looks like McKenzie will join him which is awesome.  That leaves Robinson to hold off numerous other young studs.  This unit is deep with talent, although a little short on experience.

And don't 4get about JuCo Donte Spires.

In short, this team should have plenty of depth to overcome most injuries, and is solid just about everywhere.  Looks like a Big East Title contender to me.  Can't wait for next year!

Cedric Hill at TE is basically a buffed-up reciever.  If he's 240 then Im......

well 25 pounds heavier than I am.

I think that by the end of next year Ketchel will be the starting tight end if he can put on weight.

And that is what ALL our TE's have been since day 1.

It's still a position that's not used that much.

And do not know Hill's weight, but did hear that his blocking greatly improved through teh season.

possible if he plays up to potential and we play consistant  smart football.

there is no game in 2007 that we cannot win. we should not be 14 dogs to anyone.

we would start 2007 with legit NC/BCS/BE title aspirations

and play on the field would determine how far we go.

lets not get ahead of ourselves

probably will still be big dogs at auburn

also winning on the road in BE is difficult (remember cinci this yr and uconn and pitt last yr) even in games you expect to win

ask RU about going to cinci

also for us just winning on the road can be difficult (kansas - puke)

most likely it will be a team that can go 6-1 that wins the BE title

having 4 BE road games will be tough (pitt/uconn/ru/cuse)

more realistic analysis

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
