I live in Debary...I have a USF flag, tag, and magnet. Make sure you yell something to me if you see it!  ;) I'll give a proper response.

The object of the game is to sell tickets. To collect revenue for each seat

available, preferably to persons who will actually attend the game and

adhere to the resepctive bowl city's chamber of commerce desires regarding

spending etc. It's a sales gig...hawk this thing as best as you can, and

try to create sufficient demand.  I'm not buying the improvished student who

can't come up with $30 and that's the ONLY reason they're not going.

Otherwise, the question would be why doesn't USF purchase 10,000 tickets

and give them away to students. With a population of 40K, wouldn't it be nice

to have 25% of the school show up?

It's the same reason that recent grads may not be springing for season tickets. Not

because the info isn't availalbe (and yes there is a Young Alumni program in

place for recent graduates), it's just that now...the money comes directly

from YOUR  pocket! Not only the price of a ticket, but also your

respective donation to the Bulls club. No more just swiping the old id!

If just being an alumni were enough to sell tickets, RayJ would have been sold

out from day-1 based on the number of alumni in the area.

Blame marketing until the proverbial cows come home, but I'm telling you,

the product is what the product is. You can't convince folks to buy what they

have no interest in to begin with.

How do you manage to go through college and NOT know about your

football team? I just can't get my arms around that one... 8-)

so we have a piss poor product?

i disagree i bullieve we have a good to very good product (not great)

the problem IMO is the "powers that be" at the university have not fully "embraced" the football team.

when they do the buzz factor will excite the alums and community.

i feel the university "powers that be" are in the same mode as the fan base: a small but growing minority of diehards trying to pull others along (at major programs it is the exact opposite...hopefully time and winning will improved this)

eg. at every opportunity usf does not push the football team. i have seen tons of stories about usf on all media formats and unless it is a football story, football is not mentioned. these many chances to get "free" advertising for the football program are never taken advantage of.

I hope we can sell at least 6K from our allotment.  Remember, some people also probably got them from Ticketmaster--that's something that everyone needs to understand...buy them from USF!!!

I also don't believe that the 4,400 includes the athletics peoplem players and the band, ect....  Just no way...

why should anyone buy their tix from usf? (devils advocate)

did YOU get anything from usf saying they would prefer that you do this?

ticketmaster is 24/7 and convienent,

what about a flyer encouraging season tix holder to buy an few extra to help the school eg buy 5 extra and get a signed whatever, and please buy from usf and btw here is the telephone #. they flyer could have gone out the day we became bowl eligible or after the wvu win.  some hints to get the cats herded in the right direction.

from where i am sitting usf just is not doing anything to maximize bowl tix sales to their captive audiences (season tix holders, alums and students) AT THIS TIME IN OUR DEVELOPMENT SELLING OUT THOSE TIX SHOULD BE THE PRIORITY, BUTTS IN THE SEATS WILL FOLLOW IN TIME.

LAST WHY NOT DO A SIGNED TIX PURCHASE DEAL, I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT ONE TO GO WITH THE OTHER 4 TIX I GOT SO NOW MY COLLECTION OF SIGNED BOWL GAME TIX WOULD BE TWO. ten years from now i would have 10 signed bowl tix, who knows maybe they could start charging a primuim for these signed tix over time.

Sending postage to all graduating students letting them know about season tickets would be a waste of money.  What person doesn't know that they can buy season tickets to the USF events?

There is a lot of things that we know but yet we do not think about them.  People know that we play at RayJ but they don't think about it when they drive through Dale Mabry because there is nothing there to associate the stadium with us. People know they can buy season tickets but a nice letter can be that reminder. My sister just donated some $$$ to WUSF just because she got a letter, she has known for a while that she can donate to WUSF but the letter gave her the extra push. We need to stop waiting for that fan base to magically grow. We need to be more proactive.

amen bro

Well I hate to say it, but I think that the lesser bowls need to be shaked off the system all together. papajohn's ?  Chick-fil-a bowl???   whatta friggin joke. When we fight our damndest and claw our way to the top of the heap, when we get a helluvalot more sincere fans, when we play and win real bowls that are actually worth a ****...  then my dream will have come to fruition.

Dig it.

Mutt,

FYI on the Chick-fil-a Bowl below. You are comparing the Papajohns.com to the Chick-fil-a Bowl.  I really hope you are kidding.

"Entering the 2006 contest, the Chick-fil-A Bowl has enjoyed nine straight sellouts, and 12 in the last 14 years, making it the highest attended bowl game outside the Bowl Championship Series. The television ratings were the highest among the 20 bowl games televised on ESPN, and was the third-highest rated bowl ever on the network."

the corporate sponsorship of bowls has led to some real odd names for bowls. I miss the old days when a bowl had a name you could recognize. Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl etc-- without the attached company slapped on there.

Our bowl this year would have sounded much more respectable as the Birmingham Bowl or the Iron Bowl- something like that than attaching pizza or car care or whatever else that the media douchebags love to rip on.

The Chick-fil-A Bowl leads all bowl games in charitable and scholarship contributions.  Last year, the Bowl contributed a record $526,000 to charities and educational institutions.  The Chick-fil-A Bowl has given more than $2.5 million to various charitable organizations over the last eight years.
