Bulls Lightening Workload In Bowl Practices

TAMPA University of South Florida coach Jim Leavitt hasn't changed much from last year in the way the Bulls are preparing for their bowl game. One major difference, however, is doing away with two-a-day practices in favor of one afternoon session.

Redshirt freshman QB Matt Grothe loves the lighter workload and believes it will help keep the team focused.

"I remember last year's practices weren't too pleasant. It got old fast. This year, we're just doing our normal practices, but a little bit shorter," he said.

"We know what we need to do. We know how to play football. This far into the season, we're just going out there and working on stuff that we're going to be preparing for for the bowl game."

Leavitt provided the players with a little added incentive when he told them that if USF defeats East Carolina in the Papajohns.com Bowl, he will continue the one-a-day practices leading up to next year's bowl.

BULL BOWL: USF ended its second week of bowl practices with a short scrimmage involving underclassmen and players who don't see much playing time.

Former Gaither WR Carlton Mitchell, who drew praise from Leavitt during preseason workouts, continues to garner attention.

"Carlton Mitchell did a great job," Leavitt said. "He had two unbelievable catches. He really looked good."

i like the incentive.  win a bowl, dont have to do 2-a-days.  also, getting players time that havent as much helps for next year, so that's always good.

The coach,media and many posters keep talking about the new RSF WRs coming in.  This is really exciting.  Matt will have soooo many targets to throw to.

And these new guys are BCS caliber recruits . . . and tall:

Sherman is 6' 4" & 200 lbs.

Mitchell is   6' 4" & 190 lbs.

Hanks is     6' 3" & 210 lbs.

Alcin is        6' 2" & 180 lbs.

These weights may not be current.
