USF Bench To Get A Bit More Crowded

The conclusion of finals week not only means a measure of relief for the players in the classroom, it also marks the beginning of some help on the court.

Junior Kentrell Gransberry and sophomore Jesus Verdejo, mid-year transfers last season from LSU and Arizona, respectively, are eligible to play and are expected to see extensive playing time in Las Vegas.

Gransberry, at 6-9, 270 pounds, gives USF a much-needed presence inside.  He led the nation in rebounding as a sophomore in junior college.  Verdejo is a proven scorer with international experience, having played with the Puerto Rican National Team.  He will be a vital part of the team’s guard corps.

The Bulls are also still awaiting the services of redshirts Chris Howard and Zaronn Cann.  Both are recovering from knee injuries suffered in the off-season.

Cann should be ready before howard... so I expect Cann back maybe by the next home game or the UAB game...  I don't know if my expectations are realistic though... just going on reports from a couple weeks back.

I hope jesus makes one of those miracles and gets the Bulls going in the big east.  Hell, If we win 8-10 games in the Big East we'll have a shot at an NCAA birth.  Granted 8-10 wins in the Big East will mean a lot of upsets over ranked opponents.  So I hope our D can keep us in games like last year, but I hope out offense can get a bit more then last year to help us get some Ws.

I know the transfers are slated to start immediately and be integral members of the team, but what about Cann and Howard. Are either slated to start or at least be major contributors? And who goes to the end of the bench when these guys come back?

So what's the word on Cann?

I know the kind of athlete he was, but I have been wondering if that knee is just going to keep coming back to get him.

BigEast is not the powerhouse it was last year.  If we are to go to MSG this would be a good year to make it happen.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
