Grothe was this guy two years ago. There is nothing wrong with grooming the next guy and picking him up right now. He would sit out that first season unless he was ready to jump in and only be used in a emergency role. That first year as a redshirt greatly helped MG figure stuff out-- getting used to college life, learning the system, improving his body-- preparing to make thaat leap from HS to college ball.

So to say that Marve is not going to sit out for three years is a stretch. He will sit one year for sure pretty much most places and ifhe isn't-- there may be more problems than he really wants to get involved with. This isn't so much about being able to compete as it is growing into a role. Part of me hopes we don't get him simply to avoid the haters go nuts after a bad game by Matt and starting some knee jerk campaign to replace him (just like they did with Banks then Julmiste -- not that those cases weren't without validity).

We've got a proven winner at QB right now. And that attracts more guys to a team believe it or not-- even at the same position. It shows other great players that they to can find success with USF.

That said-- I expect Marve to end up at another school because the schools that need help will be pressingharder than ever and they can dangle that "start right away" carrot that USF simply cannot offer with a straight face. But we can offer other things he might find attractive. I just don't see it happening but Isure wouldn't mind being wrong.

I have a hunch that Marve, unfortunately, will end up at Miami. Think about it, Kyle Wright will be gone soon and Kirby Freeman isn't exactly lighting it up for Canes fans. He pretty much has an open shot at a program that has much more tradition than we do and is close enough to home that he can make a 4 hour drive, if need be.

I hope that we are able to land Marve, but I seriously think Miami will snag this kid. Check out the following article from the Miami Herald:

Oh yea, anyone know anything about the OL commitment from Valdosta, Ga? Some info would be appreciated.

last night on that radio show with Josh, they mentioned he is a tremendous pickup and that we are recruiting athletic OL because of our system and that in 3 or 4 years, this guy will be 6'6, 300+ and be NFL material.

And on the same radio show one of the hosts mentioned how great it would be if Marve ended up in Miami.  And he said that during our recruiting segment!

On the Recruiting Board, I believe that Josh said that he has reliable and strong info that leads him to believe there is no way Marve will be going to UM. I don't know what that would be, but he knows a hell of a lot more than I do.
