we have to buy less tix this yr and they are cheaper should be close to break even

but extra practice time and exxposure = positive opportunity cost so from an economic standpoint it will be profitable

Meineke paid 750K

this one is 300K

assuming travel costs and everything else is nearly identical, that means we are doing this all on less than 150K to be in a better position. I don't see that as reality. Make no bones about it-- this bowl will cost USF money. I am no arguing whether we should go or not-- but it is a money loser, not a gainer.

Is it not 300K, but no ticket mimimum?  I thought I read that somewhere.  Last year we had to buy the remaining tickets.  I thought this bowl game wasn't set up like that for the payout, and thus the cheaper payout is a result.

If the bottom line is at issue then the coaches could donate their bowl bonus money to the football program.

seems pretty cut and dry to me-- 10000 tickets at 30 bucks a piece = 300K

You want to earn your full allotment, sell all your tickets or eat them.

What sucks is they are getting some TV money but this sin't filtering to the teams as far as I can tell. And I wonder if we are still expected to kick a portion of the 300K into the BE bowl pool-- thereby lowering our payout even further.

Yeah yeah---- overall we get 1+ million from the bowl scenario

but this failure to sell tickets is costing USF

my point is not going costs as well

what is the opportunity cost of not going? This has to be considered.

The extra month of practice helps the younger players for next yr which can translate into a better bowl game.

I have also read of some big name recruits watching some recent practices so the WVU win as well as the bowl game should help recruiting.

We will also get some air time on espn/sports center which is hard to put a price on

If we win we should also carry momentum in voters minds and perhaps receive votes to begin next season....cant put a price on that as well

let me restate why I am talking about this. I understand that going is the best thing all things considered. But it is not a windfall in terms of money to the program. And that is basically due to fans not going or buying tickets. And that part sucks

Mike you mentioned that it might not be the best scenario from a financial standpoint

my arguement is that it is positive even if we lose 100k this yr

the opportunity cost IMO would be more than 100k making this a positive event

def not a windfall by any stretch of the imagination and Im saddened by our fans not buying tix

when i mention im going to bham most people in Chicago are shocked...they say wow you guys are really die hard fans
