USF Offense More Exciting Than Last Year

TAMPA Despite returning to the spread offense after two years of relying on the tireless running of former TB Andre Hall, the University of South Florida’s offensive output is similar to that of a year ago.

In its 12 games last season, USF outscored its opponents 276-216 while committing 25 turnovers Through 12 games this year, the Bulls have a 275-213 scoring advantage and 28 turnovers.

But that’s where the similarities end. This year’s offense is more exciting and less predictable. And with East Carolina ahead in the Papajohns.com Bowl, USF (8-4) could end up with three more wins than it had last year.

“It’s a different philosophy in terms of how we play-call,†offensive coordinator Rod Smith said. “We’ve had more production from our skill guys, which is a huge upgrade from last year. We still have to take care of the ball a lot better and learn to finish drives and not shoot ourselves in the foot. But we’re a young team and as we mature hopefully that will take care of itself.â€Â
