Three-Year Letterman Kenny Robinson Leaves USF Football Team

(May 18, 2004) Kenny Robinson, a cornerback who played in 32 games, including five starts with the University of South Florida football team, has left the squad for personal reasons, head coach Jim Leavitt said today. Robinson, a graduate of Escambia High School in Pensacola played in 21 of 22 games in 2000 and 2001 before opting for a redshirt season in 2002. He returned to play in all 11 games in 2003, including four starts at corner.

Robinson had a career-best 43 tackles in 2003, raising his three-year total to 81. He also had two career interceptions, one each in 2000 and 2001, including a 64-yard touchdown in 2000. At the time, that was a school record.

That's very odd for someone to leave for their senior season, especially after having already burned his redshirt.  I hope that everything is ok.

He was getting frustrated this spring as Brant, and Jenkins were streaking ahead of him in practice, with Djuan Brown already ahead.  His experience will be missed, talent wise there are replacements.

Shocking for a guy with nothing left eligibility wise leaving the team.  I hope this isn't a case of 1-AA recruiting.

Best of Wishes if things are bad for him personally.

Guest personal reasons

I don't know-- personal reasons could mean anything. I remember someone left a team because of a death in the family once-- it was just so devastating to them that they could not continue.

Give it some time-- if he has decided to go the 1-AA route-- I wish him the very best. It's tough to lose a kid you've had on the team for 4 years, going on 5. Whatever the situation is-- Kenny deserves our thanks and respect. He put a lot of hours into being the best he could for the Bulls and we were lucky to have him out there scrapping away.

Going to a D-1AA seems like a good idea if he's gonna be the man and play fulltime vs backup & garbage time.  His experience & depth will be missed.  This does speak volumes to the level of DBs Kravitz and Leavitt are drawing now.  Just wish NE's/Sarasota's Fabian Washington wooda considered transferring to USF.
