TAMPA - Coach Jim Leavitt wanted his players to work this week. He also wanted to get plenty of work for younger players.

"We're working on our young guys," Leavitt said. "We're working them pretty hard. That's what this week was all about. It's like spring practice, but with a whole lot less hitting."

Leavitt said the Bulls aren't ready for the Dec. 23 Papajohns.com Bowl. "We will be though," he said.

JULMISTE RETURNING: Defensive end Josh Julmiste has missed practice all week but will practice today, Leavitt said. He has been sidelined with his left foot in a boot after injuring his toe stepping in a hole.

BULLS BITS: Leavitt canceled practice Wednesday and went to Birmingham, Ala. for a bowl ceremony with East Carolina coach Skip Holtz. ... Kyle Dampier, a 6-foot-4, 265-pound defensive tackle from Merritt Island, made an oral commitment to USF on Thursday, according to USFbullseye.com.
