Bulls Receive Bid to NCAA Championship

INDIANAPOLIS – Despite being eliminated from the Conference USA Tournament early, the USF softball team will continue postseason play after receiving its second-consecutive and sixth overall bid overbid to the NCAA Championships, as announced by the NCAA Sunday evening. The Bulls will be the No. 3 seed in the Tallahassee regional and games will be played May 20-23.

Also in USF’s regional are No. 1 seed Florida State, No. 2 seed Oregon, No. 4 seed Florida, No. 5 seed Cal State Northridge, No. 6 seed Ohio State, No. 7 seed Bethune-Cookman and No. 8 seed Long Island.

“We are very excited for the opportunity to play in regionals and it’s great to be able to play in the state and have our family and friends there with us to join us as we go for our goal to play in the College World Series,†associate head coach Stacey Heintz said.

The Bulls, 57-12 overall, will look to bounce back from their disappointing tournament losses when they begin play against Ohio State (34-23 overall) at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 20. The winner of that game will go on to play the winner of the 12:30 p.m. matchup between Bethune-Cookman and Oregon. The Bulls anticipated match-up with Oregon would be a re-match of the game that the two teams were scheduled to play in the Speedline Tournament in March, but were unable to due to the Ducks’ travel plans.

Of the seven other teams in the regional, USF has already played three of them resulting in four victories. They defeated Bethune-Cookman twice in the Bulls first tournament of the season, defeated Florida the following weekend in the Gators’ home tournament, then posted a victory over Long Island in the Speedline Tournament.

The BCC Wildcats are the only team in the eight-team regional that received an automatic bid after winning the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championship.

this was brought up somewhere else, but why does USF play so many games??  I think USF played more games than anybody else in the tournament (didnt look that closely) or at least within a agme or two of the most.  LAE had been mostly dominant all season and then the last two games gave up several runs, is it possible that she has hit the wall this season?

We're also blessed with warm enough weather to allow us to do it.

The weather allows us to host several tourneys such as Speedline and so forth. We normally play in the tourney in Arizona with the best from the West, and then we participate in the Gatorsuck tourney in Gainesville. Teams from up North are normally ten games behind us in experience when the season is completed.

Leigh Ann Ellis has not hit the wall by any means. This tourney will really be interesting. We got a good draw by opening with OSU then Oregon. FSU is a monster this season and crushed teams we slipped by. Hopefully, we face them late. Leigh Ann is going to throw all the games IMO and hopefully we get up early so she can rest. I would rather not have her pitch the OSU game and give Kash the ball or Urbinak. Oregon is a lot better than OSU and have faced tough pitching in the PAC-10... so Leigh Ann is the only logical choice for that game.

I really want to goto these games if anyone is interested! I'm not sure if the team would care to have me there, but I only know one way to be a fan and that is to the max! Let's whip that ass girls so I can book a flight to OK City.

If I were giving odds on this regional, FSU is Smarty Jones... and then there are the rest. Let's go BULLS!

JewBull... Thanks for posting the bracket! Leigh Ann can pitch every game if we win... what a great draw we have!

They list FSU with the wrong record. FSU was 53-8 at the beginning of last week. I don't know how they did since then.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
