USF's Leavitt Recovering From Appendectomy

TAMPA - For South Florida's workaholic football coach Jim Leavitt to use a sick day, it must be for a good reason.

It was. Leavitt, 47, underwent an emergency appendectomy Saturday.

``I feel a lot better,'' said Leavitt Tuesday, the first day he was up walking. ``With my weight loss, now I should be able to move a lot quicker on the sidelines.''

Two months ago Leavitt took his first sick day in eight years when he had bad stomach pains. They subsided, but Friday the pains returned along with a 103-degree fever that sent Leavitt to Tampa General Hospital.

``[Team] doctor [Daniel] Van Durme and everyone at Tampa General Hospital were just absolutely fabulous,'' Leavitt said. ``I can't thank them enough.

``This was unbelievable timing being after spring practice. I guess I couldn't have had a better time to get my appendix out, if there is such a thing.''

Leavitt plans to return to work Thursday.

``I want to be feeling decent before I return,'' Leavitt said. ``I don't want to walk around the office like a zombie.''< Brett McMurphy

he heard about the new AD and his appendix busted,

waiting for coach mac to bust a leg or something

AMEN!!!  It's one thing to loose an AD, I doubt seriously we'd be where we are (Athletically speaking) without JL.  We certainly could not replace him.

One good thing Coach about having had the appendectomy...you'll never have to go through it again!
