BCS is all about football success.  I'm gonna beg to differ about CUSA football membership having great deal to do w/our inclusion to the NBE.  It is my opinion, geography (located in FL), LRS and Leavit's football success and the committment by USF/Genshaft has towards football is why USF was even considered as a NBE.  I believe USF would have been considered as a football independent if the FootBulls wooda maintained the same level of success on the field that they had the previous 2 yrs.

BTW you are kidding yourself if football potential is not the reason the BE consider the Bulls.  School academia that loosely matched the other BE universitys (Med school/large endowm't), location in FL, successful Olympic sports and basketball victories over other BE schools in men's BB in recent yrs was what pushed our beloved Bulls higher than all the other schools being considered.  Not to mention Notre Dame would NOT give up independence.

Ask UCF or any other member of CUSA if they feel that being in CUSA is more important than being in the Big East.

Being in C-USA gave us the dollars, and platform to make football successful.  Without it, there would be nothing for Leavitt to sell, and he'd either be selling a glorified FAU platform, or have been going to another school.

C-USA wasn't THE reason we got into the Big East.  Instead it was a conduit, that afforded us opportunity and cashflow the past seven years, that we could have never ascertained independently or in some tiny conference like SunBelt or Southern Independent.   Those dollars allowed us to leverage our interest, and bring these programs up to the standards The Big East were searching for.  Without those advantages C-USA provided us, we would have never leapfrogged UCF to get into The Big East.

SBien,

I'll agree that what you are saying has validity but there is room for argument on the other side of the fence (that CUSA didn't really help) but that all would be "what-if" conjecture.  Basically a practice of blowing hot air.  In reality, all that matters is USF "is" in the BE in 15 mos and that the FootBulls & BasketBulls are successful immediately.  Not to mention the Olympic Bulls remain as competitive.

We were pretty thrilled way back when to move into C-USA from the old Metro, if I remember correctly.

It was pretty big back then, like a kid getting his first bike.

Big East = 1st car then!

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
