SouthFloridaBulls.com is proud to present...

THEBULLSPEN.COM "CHASE FOR THE CARD" CONTEST

sponsored by (TBD)

This year, TheBullsPen.com is proud to add a new twist to the weekly football prediction contest... the "Chase for the Card" contest.  Similar to our basketball prediction contest that gives points for weekly performance and awards "The Bulliever's Cup" to the winner at the end of the season, the "Chase for the Card" is a contest to determine an overall winner of the prediction contest at the end of the year.

QUICK SUMMARY

  • The Chase for the Card" awards weekly points based on the accuracy of your predictions.
  • These points add up from week to week between week 1 and week 9.
  • At the end of week 9, the TOP 10 in the standings are finalized and those players participate in weeks 10-12.  Scores are reset to zero for those 10 players.
  • Weeks 10, 11, and 12 are calculated, and the winner of the "Chase for the Card" contest will be determined after week 12

For specific information, read the questions below:

How Does the "Chase for the Card" Work?

Simple.  Just make your predictions as normal every week (EVERY WEEK... consistency is key if you want to win this thing!).  There's a scoring system in place that will award points based on the accuracy of the weekly predictions that you already make!  Just play, baby!

How does the scoring system work?

Based on the accuracy of your weekly predictions, you get points that are totalled from week to week.  The scoring system is as follows:

Predicting the Game Winner:

20 pts for a correct answer

0 pts for an incorrect answer

Predicting Total Game Points:

Final Total Score Exactly right - 15 pts

Within 3 or less total pts - 12 pts

Within 7 or less total pts - 9 pts

Within 10 or less total pts - 6 pts

Within 14 or less total pts - 3 pts

Within 21 or less total pts - 1 pt

BONUS: Predicting any single team's scoring correctly - Additional 3 pts per team

Predicting Total USF Offensive Yards:

Exactly right - 10 pts

Within 20 yards or less - 7 pts

Within 40 yards or less - 5 pts

Within 60 yards or less - 3 pts

Within 80 yards or less - 2 pts

Within 100 yards or less - 1 pt

Predicting Leading Receiver:

Correct - 5 pts

Incorrect - 0 pts

Scores are calculated automatically via a nifty spreadsheet that ____ Eats It put together, so weekly results will be posted within 12 hours of game end and an updated Top 20 list will be provided.

What makes this a Chase?

Good question!  At the end of week 9, the contest will be CUT OFF to the general public.  At that point, only the TOP 10 people on the Chase for the Card standings will be eligible to get points for Weeks 10-12... and everybody starts over at ZERO (yes, just like NASCAR, Shoop).  The final three weeks will be a "sprint" of sorts to determine the BULLSPEN PIGSKIN CHAMPION!

What's this "Card" you're talking about?

That's TBD, but we're trying to secure a sponsor that will offer a gift card to the annual winner as the prize for perfect pigskin prognostication!

Does this replace the weekly contest?

No, this is in ADDITION to the weekly contest.

Should I play every week?

Uh, YES!  If you want to make the final TOP 10 and the cut for the championship, you NEED TO PARTICIPATE every week and get points every week!  Missing one week could cost you the points you need to qualify!  PARTICIPATE, DADGUMMIT!

Who do I contact if I have more questions?

Bulliever or myself.  One of us should be able to help answer some questions.

FINAL NOTE

There may be some bugs as we iron out this new and exciting twist to an old BullsPen staple.  Bear with us and let us know if you have any feedback!  This contest is just another way for the BullsPen to thank its membership and to celebrate TEN YEARS of USF FOOTBALL!

I believe the weekly results will be posted in the weekly prediction threads.

Basically, we'll announce the weekly winner AND the Top 20 standings in the prediction thread for each week.

If you're not in the Top 20, you can shoot me a PM and ask where you are and I'll let you know.

Matt

So my score from this past week would be:

Bulls  - 20 points

45-0  - 3 points

432   - 2 points

Ponton  - 0 points

=================

total of 25 points

I like it-- sounds like a fun way to keep track of overall performance instead of some who just kind of get lucky.

Just one thing-- is there a way for us to submit the predictions without others seeing it? The reason I ask is pretty simple-- if you are in a tight race for that bubble position, someone else might just put the exact same thing down to thwart your efforts to overtake them. I guess that would kind of kill the thread and be less verifiable. On second thought-- nevermind my anonymous entry suggestion-- let's see how it pans out this season.

oh-- I thought it worked the same way we do the point differential to determine the weekly winner.

Where 45 (predicted) - 41 (actual) = 4

and  0 (predicted) -10 (actual) = 10

for a total of 14

You would do better to show the whole list to prevent a bunch of people from PMing you.

I figured I am at 25 points.

Correct winner = 20

Within 20 points on score (16) = 1

Correctly predicting McNeese State score = 3

Within 100 points of total yards (90) = 1

TOTAL POINTS = 25

ACTUAL RESULTS:

1. USF

2. 41-10

3. 495

4. Cedric Hill

1)  South Florida

2)  57-10

3)  405

4)  Amp Hill

Agreed, if this is a possibility, I'd say go for it.

So what is the scoring system?

Is it the same as the first post, or is it the new formula where its based on the teams score and not the overall points?
