Bulls Set for Three-Game Series at East Carolina

TAMPA, Fla. (April 7, 2004)-The University of South Florida softball team will look for its fourth consecutive conference sweep when the Bulls travel to Greenville, North Carolina for a three-game series against East Carolina.

The Bulls (42-7, 10-2 C-USA) ranked 18th in the latest NFCA poll, is coming off a three-game sweep of Saint Louis this past weekend in Tampa. USF is riding a 16-game win streak, which includes sweeps over Charlotte and Southern Miss.

USF is led by Conference USA pitcher of the Week Leigh Ann Ellis, who is 28-4 on the season with a 0.77 ERA. Ellis has won the award for four weeks in a row and five times this year. Tiffany Stewart was named C-USA hitter of the week for her 5-for-7 performance against Saint Louis. Stewart tallied seven RBI and three runs in two games including a game ending grand slam on Sunday.

First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Friday when the Bulls and Pirates get together for the 11th time overall. USF holds the all-time series lead 8-2.

Actually, ECU also has a good softball team and up until recently had a better record than USF. They had a 14 game winning streak going before losing their last five of six games to DePaul and Louisville.
