People who want this to be a rivalry will go to any length to try to support their opinion.

I'll agree with that.   That's part of the reason it is a rivalry in the first place.  Just because people call Oklahoma/Texas a rivalry doesn't mean it is a rivalry.  It is merely a common concept that exists in the minds of the two groups associated with each institution.   An object called 'rivalry' exists no where that can be tangibly picked up, held or moved from place to place.

Philosophically you are correct -- Oklahoma/Texas is no more real than UCF/USF.

Sigh, comparing Texas/Okla to USF/UCF is the stoooooopidest thing I've seen all day.  Even stooooooopider than Herman thinking that Huggy would automatically take us to the Final Four.  The difference is that everyone in Texas and Okla know that a rivalry exists between those teams.  Tell me, how many people do you think in Florida know of this supposed rivalry between USF and UCF? :

Mike, those of us who actually live here where it is happening are able to watch this show on Sun Sports called Rec's College Kickoff where on friday nights they discuss everything about the college teams in the state and their up coming games.  before the USF vs UCF game last year there was PLENTY of rival talk.

you seem to be such a stickler for facts but yet all of your comments are based on everything BUT fact.

I would say any college football fan in the state of florida that realize USF and UCF exsist think there is a rival there.  just like people think that FAU and FIU are rivals.

All the talk I've seen in the media talks specifically about the potential of a rivalry.  Are you telling me that Joe Florida even knows USF and UCF exist and are rivals?  Are you telling me that this was a rivalry before we even ever played a down of football?  That is RIDICULOUS.  It occurs to me that nobody on this thread knows what a REAL rivalry is, if they think one exists with UCF.

well Joe Student and Joe Florida both sat down and made it clear that is was a rival.  their discussion was fully recorded and entered into the Joe Media files.

actually, for a rivalry to exsist the main factor needs to be hate of the other program.  and YES, before a down of football was even played there was a lot of HATE between schools and fanbases.  let me know if you need some proof.  how about before that first down of football was even played some USF students went up to UCF and re-arranged their UCF logo that is made out of rocks to spell USF.

No denial here, just the common knowledge of the reality of what a real rivalry entails.  If you folks think we've got a rivalry with UCF, then I guess it is just further proof that our fans have no concept of big time NCAA football.  Ironically, it is the UCF fans that have been telling us that for years.  I guess they were right.

Enjoy it.  Hopefully it will turn into a real rivalry, for USF's sake.

A couple years ago, a USF fan went up to Gainesville and defaced their campus before a volleyball game.  I guess Florida is our rival.

A couple years ago, a USF fan stole a rug from ECU with their logo on it after a basketball game.  I guess ECU is our rival.

A couple years ago, SoMiss fans hated us so much that they threw cups of hot chocolate on our fans and team.  I guess SoMiss is our rival.
