West Virginia - Marshall (Conference USA) This rivalry, held annually in basketball, will resume in 2006 in football.

Louisville - Memphis (Conference USA)

Cincinnati - Xavier (Atlantic 10)

Cincinnati - Memphis (Conference USA)

Cincinnati - Miami (OH) (Mid-American Conference) The eighth-oldest and 11th-longest running rivalry in NCAA Division I football.

Marquette - Wisconsin (Big Ten)

South Florida - Central Florida (Conference USA) Both schools, rivals for years, have experienced resurgences in their respective football teams recently.

Connecticut - Massachusetts (Atlantic Ten) Stemming from a resurgence of UMass basketball in the mid-1990's, fans of both teams clamored for a renewal of this regional basketball rivalry. The resulting MassMutual UGame has pitted the two schools in an annual contest since 1996.

My personal take: I know there's alot of speculation about who our rivals should be but, ultimately, thats not something that gets chosen. It develops over time.

I agree that the Louisville-USF rivalry is "blooming" given the back-and-forth blowouts.  I think this is a rivalry everyone would like to see develop, given Louisville's reputation as a solid team.  By playing good programs, we are associated with good programs.

And then there's UCF. Most folks who are interested in seing USF nationally known are NOT interested in continuing the UCF series because, quite frankly, we feel any association with UCF gives off vibes of low-level "directional" team rivalry and drags us down.  In other words, it's best if there is really only 1 team competing for that elusive 4th football spot in Florida.  But unfortunately, this is one of those cases where we can't choose our rivals. Like it or not, the hostility/proximity between the schools is driving a future rivalry.  The only way this can be avoided is if we beat them embarassingly every year. You gotta admit, the 05 game was fun, though.

Just my thoughts.

What the hell does that mean?  What are we "resurging" from?  We've only been 1-A four years.

That's the beauty of Wikipedia. You can edit it if you'd like.

On a side note, the article mentions further BE expansion and names UCF, ECU, Memphis, and Navy as potential picks.

Since we've played UCF as many times as we've played UM, it holds the same relevance.

I have to say that I like the UCF rivalry. It's more fun when your rival is nearby-it definitely makes for a HUGE game, and when it's in state, I think that's even better. It just makes more sense to me than to have a rival like Louisville...it's like someone just picked that out of a hat. The UCF rivalry makes sense.

katie the ucf rivalry makes sense only because of location.  we have played louisville 3 teams so far twice here and once there.  the first game here was a close game, the second one at louisville was a dominating game by them, and the third one here, well we all know how that ended up.  it seems that depending where the game is the home team always wins.  i think louisville is a bigger rivalry than ucf.  maybe in baseball is the only place i see a rivarly like collin said today in our student bulls club meeting

we might hate wvu, but they aren't a rivalry yet, and probably never will be, best rivalry is louisville, out of conference, gotta refer to what collin said at tonights sbc meeting, Southern Miss, we have had strong games vs them.  the atmosphere at these games was good also. just something about them that makes you hate them
