Defense allowed TDs on the first 2 Tulane drives…hardly fatigue from the hurry up offense

this sounds more like a “both/and” than an “either/or” scenario.

the defense fully rested may have let Tulane go bezerk but it held up early against Bama & Miami. maybe that was a fluke, but it was a reality.

i think it would be reasonable to say that the defense both has its holes & flaws that can & have been exploited AND those holes get bigger as the defense gets fatigued & lack of depth takes its toll.

what i see is a defense that has a handful of impact guys that dont really seem to play as a unit. fatigued or not, we got cooked by Bama & Miami on several TD plays because someone was out of position. i can think of at least 2 long TD’s against UM & Bama that were given up while the games were competitive bc there was no extra help over the top.

the team cant add talent, it can only continue coaching up the talent it has, try to keep it healthy & put it in a position to win.

the holes that exist when the team is healthy & not fatigued are not reasons to CONTINUE fatiguing them— the **** uptempo-no-matter-what offense doesnt generate enough points to even justify its utility as an offensive strategy, nevermind the paltry 30 seconds of rest it allows an already flawed defense…

slowing the ball down in certain situations would likely serve BOTH sides of the ball well. rip off a few plays THEN step on the gas.

the unimaginative run game is a whole nother issue but relevant as dependable running is necessary to sustaining drives.

CAG doesnt need to scrap the playbook he just needs to expand on it while utilizing tempo as the situation calls for it, not as a default setting.

TN is around 40th in speed of play and a top 5 offense. USF is top 5 in speed of play and around 90th in offense.

You can have speed or quality but you can’t have both.

Ole Miss is #6 in seconds per play and #2 offense

put marlon mack, rodney adams and quinton flowers in this offense and we would put a ton of pressure on our opponents to score every drive.

we don't have gamebreaking talent.

no offense to atkins or joiner but you are in trouble if your best receiver is a walk-on and your best rb is a 6th year senior with an extensive injury history.

charlie strong is that you???

CAG is an offensive minded coach. He is going to build his program through his offense. It worked for UCF. We just don't have the talent.

I don't know if he will be able to do it but we need gamebreakers on offense.

I get the argument that slowing down the offense will lead to closer games (a la army, etc) but that's not him. That was charlie strong's philosophy.

There are pros and cons to running your offense fast or slow.

Fair that don’t have P2 level talent. Are you expecting that we are getting some?

This scheme is awesome. I've never seen a team call a "basketball timeout," like Miami did when we pushed them back to their goaline. They couldn't keep up. UCiF built a great team, won significant games, and moved up in the world running something similar (Golesh was the WR coach, I believe). If they can pull it off, why can't we? "We ArE NoT UcF." We have all the capabilities to pull off something similar to their more recent success.

The issue is Byrum Brown's inaccuracy. For some unknown reason, he has not been able to make simple passes this year. Two incomplete passes in a row and now you're stuck with 3rd and long over and over. It is super frustrating.

we aren't playing against p2 level talent on a regular basis.

like I said playing a slowed down offense will keep games closer as it limits possessions for both teams.

it doesn't mean we will win more.it just means we will get blown out less.

what we do need is a more efficient offense and in order for us to achieve that we will need better players.

if we wanted a slowed down offense we should have hired someone like charlie strong whose philosophy is to play conservative, field position football  in order to keep games close and hope to win by a field goal.

agreed. Brown's inaccuracy. Receivers get no separation. backs don't have breakaway speed

it's the jimmie and joes not the x's and o's

BTW tennessee uses 26.5 seconds per play compared to our 21.2.

Are you suggesting that our defense would be that much better if our offense used 5.3 x 3 = 15.9 seconds more per three and out? That's the difference?

our offensive efficiency is the problem. not how fast we run plays.
