Defense allowed TDs on the first 2 Tulane drives…hardly fatigue from the hurry up offense

Yes it is true that we had no answer from the start.  We kept pinning them back on punts, so they would just stack more TOP and yards.

The Dline cannot get to passing QBs, so they will pick us apart unless we get lucky on some blitzes.  I saw us blitz one side and they just happened to run the play to the other side.  We are going to have to hit on a few big blitz plays per game to get change of possession.

Kind of related - did we ever hear why Rucker didn't play at Tulane?  He's been called out positively for his play on defense by CAG in prior games.

Hope it's not this:

I think that's also why our receivers cant break away....they are getting worn having to run a route then run back to LOS and do it again in seconds......that's gotta be hard for also the offense.  We don't have the elite talent Tennessee has.

We need to be quick at times when we can catch a defense with personal matchup issues but going fast all the time makes no sense when it's not even working well.

Yes the difference is that we happened to play teams with a winning record. Offense seemed to have worked ok against a 1-3 SMiss and 0-5 BCU.

Gag needs to dump this basically a turnover offense as it takes 30 secs to go 3 and out. Go spread, use jet sweeps, encourage the QB to buy time by scrambling and not take off to run at first glance.

This correlates to the wins last year versus bottom dwellers and the loses against opponents with winning records. The trend has continued this year.

So beating the teams we should beat and losing to the teams we shouldn't beat .......

Hurry up offenses have three purposes.

One, you use it when you outmatch your opponent in athleticism AND conditioning.  It's not a scheme you just suddenly decide you want to run, that's why so few teams use it consistently.  You have to recruit for it and you have to prepare for it.  It requires a lot of conditioning.  You would also call specific plays to exploit your tactical advantage using this strategy.

Two, when the opposing defense rotates in certain players that you want to "trap" on the field in order to exploit certain weaknesses that you know they have in order to run specific plays against them that you think will have a much greater chance of success.  For instance, your opponent rotates in certain players to defend against the run and you know they are now positioned weak against the pass.  If you already have certain players on the field that give you an advantage in the passing game such as your best deep threat, slot receiver and/or TE then you go Hurry Up so that they can't rotate in better players to defend against the pass.  The same works in reverse, if they are strong against the pass and you are positioned against the run you don't want to let them rotate.  This takes quick analytical and recognition skills on the part of both the coaches and players, including your quarterback who is typically the field "general".

It requires a tremendous understanding of not only your strengths and weaknesses but your opponent's as well.  Scouting and film are your friends in this regard.  Previous season(s) experience against the same coach(es) and/or team help as well to develop familiarity with what your opponent is likely to do in any given scenario.

This is where football is more mental than physical.  Coaches must have good analytical skills based on the players they see on the field and defensive formations that are being used.

Three, it's late in the first or second half and the clock is "against" you and you need to score points.  You may need to go hurry up even if it's not your strength or first choice but you have no choice.  All teams have and practice what's known as a 2 minute drill for this last minute, "hurry up" scenario although sometimes it sure doesn't look like it.

Well whole team flat out sucked that game.

When the defense did look better those game with the quick 3 and outs did them no favor I am sure.

QB needs to be able to pass accurately and make the right decisions.

Im not convinced Brown isn’t part of the struggle on offense.

Defense, idk, whole defense is off. Tulane just had guys wide open everywhere. This is a scheme and formation issue on the defense I think, not an issue from our hurry up offense.
