I  hope so but remember, the weak ooc and conference schedule is what kept USF out of the Big Dance after failing to win the conference tourney.  I truly believe they were "that" close to getting in but Strength of Schedule held them back.  Wins against Bethune Cookman, Stetson, etc. don't do ANYTHING to help you get in come March.  The loss to Central Michigan certainly didn't help either.

I get winning, momentum and all of that but when you have people hundreds or thousands of miles away looking at your record, strength of schedule, conference performance, tourney performance, etc and they make the decision as to whether you're in or out it's important.

I wonder how many of the players that hit the portal would have stayed if USF was in the tourney?  Imagine if USF got in and knocked off one or two higher seeded teams?  I think at least some of the players would have stayed thinking USF is a place where I can get some recognition and a chance to show what I can do.

Just my 2 cents.

I'm not worried about the big dance. I'm good seeing us win when I go to games. Like football, there are no national championships in our future in hoops.

Think it is mostly a year to year thing. They don't set up games years in advance like football.

Not worried about the Big Dance?  Most programs, coaches, players, fans etc. consider making the tourney as the MINIMUM measure of success.  Don't make the tourney at least occasionally and eventually anyone worth recruting won't want to come here.

Not making the Big Dance means you're not winning the conference tourney and you're not beating anybody of any significance in the regular season.  It was fun seeing USF back in the winning groove last year after so many down years in MBB but after 2 or 3 seasons of only beating teams like Bethune, Stetson, Wofford, etc. fans will start to expect more and failing to deliver bigger, better wins will result in apathy returning.

Imagine if during this drought in football the MBB had stepped up and routinely made the tourney and occasionally pulled off the upset.  USF may already be in a better conference or at least being considered this go around.  It's not just about being a football or basketball school.  USF can be both, and they don't have to win national championships in either to be considered a success.

Don’t set your sights too high, pal. After all, you’re a USF fan.

Yep, play over .500 in conference. Baby steps. A year like last year would be fine every year even sans tournament.

If USF beats UF, COC and Utah St., that's enough to show the committee that we can beat good teams on neutral/away courts.  Losing 2 of those 3 would be devastating for at-large hopes.  Win 2 of the 3 would be a decent start.

If USF repeats last year, it will be alot of fun.

If they don't, I will improve my season ticket seats the following season.  Win-win.

But USF lists the tournament on the MBB schedule.  Doesn't that mean we're making it this year?
