I still trust this coaching staff, as so far they’ve shown good coaching and have turned the team around.

I think they’re calling plays based on the individual match ups and how we stack up, and where we are on the field.

inside the 10 there is no space, we don’t have deep receivers to pull defenders out of the passing lanes or away from the line of scrimmage.

We need a full field to get separation from athletes that Alabama has.

I think they were looking for mismatch at the line of scrimmage instead of with receivers inside the red zone.

Im sure they had game planned the red one offense and had their reasons for calling they way they did.

Im not upset. We struggle inside the 10, and I think the field goal was a fine call. If the defense, playing well to that point, holds them to a FG, it’s still a 1 possession game. But if you don’t make the TD on 4th, a Bama field goal makes it a 2 possession game, that’s a pretty big risk.

Defense laid an egg in the last 5 minutes. This is probably a depth issue compared to Alabama at the end of the game.

Brown was missing a lot of receivers too.

We did the same thing against BC in game one. We ran up the middle four times and we couldn't score. Yes the refs messed that situation up but still.

I said it in the game thread. When we ran outside the box we gained yards consistently in the second half. The run up the middle wasn't getting us anything. And yet that's all we did in the red zone. I get Alabama was keyed in on BB running but they gotta get outside the tackle box more with their runs. We are not a power run team. We are a spread it out and speed running team. But we get in the red zone and switch to run up the gut. I don't get it

Also we were playing with house money last night. Where were the trick plays? Let Atkins pass the ball on a jet sweep or something.

Agree - I kept looking for the pitch to Atkins so he could throw a bomb downfield, like he did against Syracuse.  Given that BB was having a bad night, that could have opened up the game.  Easy to be a Sunday morning quarterback, though…

Go Bulls

Is Red Zone offense the number one thing holding this team back at the moment?

Fair enough, maybe.  We don’t have a go to outside of BB.  Would love some better RZ-specific play calls, like that trick play we dialed in for the first TD.

That throw to Hardeman was like the highlight of the season. We need more of that.

Problem is Miami is just really good and we got some of those same plays in vs USM.

This is a clear area of major weakness. Coach Golesh has mentioned several times how they’ve spent significant time working on red zone offense - well, it hasn’t been good work so far. First-and-goal has not been the place for us to be.
