GAME DAY vs. Bama

 

Coming off the Bulls’ first season-opening win since 2020, USF will seek its first win over a ranked foe since a 2016 defeat of No. 22 Navy (52-45) as they head to Tuscaloosa for a rematch of a 2023 contest that was tied at 3 at the half and was a one score game with under a minute to play before Alabama prevailed 17-3. It will mark the Bulls second trip to play the Crimson Tide in the state of Alabama, but first in Tuscaloosa. Unranked Alabama won 40-17 in Birmingham to open the 2003 season. Saturday will mark the second game in a three game series that culminates with a USF return to Tuscaloosa in on Sept. 12, 2026.

VS TOP 5: The Bulls will be playing their fifth game against a top five-ranked FBS opponent. USF is 1-3 vs. the top five, with a victory over No. 5 West Virginia (21-13) in Tampa in 2007. The Bulls’ last top five foe was a 45-28 loss to No. 2 Cinncinnati in Tampa in 2021. USF has also faced No. 4 Florida State (L, 30-17 in 2012) at home and No. 2 Oklahoma (L, 31-14, 2002) in Norman, Okla. USF has Top 10 victories over No. 5 WVU (2007), at No. 7 West Virginia (2006) and vs. No. 9 Louisville (2005). USF last downed a ranked foe on the road with a 23-20 victory at No. 16 Notre Dame on Sept. 3, 2011. USF also has road wins at No. 9 West Virginia (2006) at No. 17 Auburn (2007) and at No. 18 Florida State (2009). USF, which began its first four seasons as an FCS program, has three victories over FCS Top 10 teams during that era, including a victory over No. 1 Troy State (20-10) in 2000.

45+ POINTS: USF is riding a three-game streak of scoring 45+ points in a game dating to the 2023 season. The USF offense under Byrum Brown is averaging 46 ppg and a 41.3 ppg margin of victory over that span with the defense giving up just 17 points (5.7 ppg.)

SEASON OPENING WIN: USF snapped a three-game losing streak in season openers with a 48-3 rout of Bethune-Cookman that marked the largest margin of victory in an opener since 2015 (T4th in program history), most points in an opener since 2016 and fewest points allowed in an opener since 2015 (T3rd in program history)
