We greatly improved for the Bowl. Was it just one game or the year of learning and extra practice?

Bowl game was an outlier against a team that had a TE playing QB.

Secondary is the worst part of defense...dont see how they aren't improved.

Passing yards defense, a good goal would be sub 100 for this year.

Should get defense ranked around 70s or so.

It's not really one offseason though.  I think of the defense as a parabolic curve.  Each improvement helps the other position and they stack exponentially.  We know we radically improved the run defense last year and we are beefing up the D-line.  They added a new secondary coach.  Perhaps we start to see that curve trend up faster this year.  I am thinking it doesn't have to be totally world beating this year to win with this offense.

If we can beat Tulane and Memphis we are the real deal. I would love to beat all the other teams but the goal in the win the conference championship. Starting 4-2 is the goal, and 5-1 with an upset against Bama or Miami would be epic. Knowing usf history  we upset Bama and Miami then lose to SoMi ,Tulane, and Memphis.   I have higher expectations this season 7-5 Is my floor, but want to get into the aac championship. We improve as far as the defense improves.

You had teams throwing it on 4th and short rather than run it b/c our secondary was so bad.

There should be a huge jump from year one to year two under CAG. The place slow down, and all the massive changes in the secondary should really jump start our past defense. I think coach will hold back some key plays in the first game so he's got some surprises left for Alabama. I think we can win four out of six and if we can beat Miami then woohoo!

In fairness to Dan Villari, it wasn't his first time starting. He played a full game vs Georgia Tech and did enough to keep them in the game.

To be real though, I think the defense was so fired up that day that even if Shrader had been started the Orange would have gotten eaten alive.

You shouldn't have to do too much against Bethune Cookman. They were 3-8 last year (although 2 of those three wins came in their last three games). Run the ball, tackle well, and give BB17 some chemistry building passes against live competition and you should win going away. Memphis, Miami, and even FAMU handled them fine. Leave all the clever stuff in the bin for Bama.

Our Defense played well, it might not have been a shut-out, but we would been in control.

This game. I hope we see the bench a lot.

Not sure.  He didn't have anything in the tank and couldn't make any throws.  So we could just pressure and the rest was history.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
